Hello,
Can anyone tell me why my English version of Illustrator 8.0 can't let me enter the J text, as before. I recentlly had my pc crashed and needed to have OS reinstalled by a technician. For some reason, I am not able to type J text while in Illustrator as well as in Dreamweaver. Both of them are English versions, however, I never ever had any problem in typing the Japanese text and print them out. I need to print the labels in colors from Illustrator but I just can't do this task. Although I am not able to do the above while in those two applications, I have no problem in typing while in Memo software, and I can also type in Japanese when writing an email. One thing I did notice was that I could type J while in Memo (note pad), but if I saved the file as is without changing the file format to unicode, the text is garbled when opened. So, could this be that I would have to have unicode fonts installed in the system. Could it be as simple as that. Illustrator does not have any capability to let the user to decide which mode to save, so I thought simply adding the unicode fonts into the system may solve the problem.
Please help! I am desparate enough to search all over the Internet to find someone who could help me solve this issue.
Thank you so very much in advance for your kindness in helping me solve my font issues.
One more thing to add.. I always have English version of XP OS installed onto my pc, not J, and all applications have always been English versions, but adding the J font feature in the Regional and Language in the Control panel always allowed me to type the J text while in the English versions of all applications. Could this be that because the technician installed the XP Service Pack 3 instead of 2 which was always my previous OS version. The reason that I say this is because I had copied versions of software from my own original licensed software for convenience purposes but moving from one place to another, and then remodeling the house, I lost some of the original versions but I never had any problem with installation of the software from the copied one from the CD/DVD rom. After this Pack 3 having installed, as I
insert the CD, the system doesn'st recognize the CD with files in it. It simply indicates a blank cd with 0 byte. Could this Pack 3 being added with new features that would unable users from doing this type of things, thus it could well affect the J text entry as well.. This is just something that I have noticed.
I will be very grateful if anyone could add some comments about some possibilities or causes of these problems. I thank you again in advance for your help.
Best regards,![]()

hi, i loaded Chinese and Arabic for clients off sp3, one on a sp2 machine and it worked fine in word. Don't think its sp3, however, did u also add the keyboard language and tick 1of the boxes in regional settings?

Thank you for your response, indeed. With applications such as Word, Memo, email browsers, etc. there is no problem. I am referring to applications such as Illuustrator and Dreamweaver. I was always able to do what I can't today. Could you tell me what you mean by 'the keyboard.' I clicked on the keyboard in the Japanese setting in the Regional and Language, but if I clicked on it, and then select Japanese, I would have to choose something from the list. I don't see any thing in there that is appropriate to select in terms of the relation to Japanese. So... if you choose the 'keyboard,' what would you do after that....? Ahhhh.. I don't know what to do... really.
Thank you anyway. If you could help me out with the keyboard thing, I will appreciate it very much.

well i was talking about adding the keyboard under 'default input language' there is an 'add' button where it says 'installed services' but i'm not sure that would help. after that you press left alt+shift and it changes the keyboard layout

I think you need to specifically add Asian text (CJK) support when you install Illustrator
