I am running Microsoft Windows Vista Business 32-bit on an Acer TravelMate 8103WLMi. I have read that Vista automatically disables Aero while on Battery power, however for me that is not the case. When I unplug my laptop I still have Aero.
My power scheme is always set to High Performance because I use RMClock. However when I am on battery, I set RMClock to stay at 800MHz (the lowest).
I was wondering if anyone knew the cause of the Aero not disabling problem or any way to resolve it.

I could be wrong, but I think the RM clock only controls the CPU power usage. You could have to go to your Vista power settings. Right click on your battery in the task bar and go to power options. From there pick a power plan that you want to use and go to change plan settings. When the new screen comes up go to Change Advanced Power settings. From there you'll have to look since mine says Vaio Power Management. I am able to turn the color down to 16-bit and use a Vista Basic theme.

I don't have anything about changing colour depth or themes. I do have ATI PowerPlay options but that is set up for Optimal Battery on Battery, and Optimal Performance when Plugged In.
The only other option that can think of is Adaptive Display, but I'd rather not enable that until I am sure because last time I enabled that on my other laptop my backlight turns off and my laptop locks up completely. -
also, i believe there are tests that show Aero Glass having an insignificant effect on battery life.

Huh? Now I'm confused... stargate? Love the show(s), don't see the relevance.
Anyways, it looks like this feature is only available through 3rd party apps, like the Vaio power management, but that it may not have much of an effect on battery life. -
