I got my Lenovo ThinkPad T61 (Windows XP) yesterday. NVIDIA was preinstalled. I didn't like NVIDIA so I uninstalled it. Problems soon came up--

    1. Stand-by no longer works. The stand-by button is gray and the hibernation tab in the Power Settings has disappeared.

    2. Every time I try to play a video in Windows Media Player, it says "Error downloading codec. The YUY2 codec is required to play this file."

Is there any way to fix these problems without reinstalling NVIDIA?

Wait a minute. Does your machine have an integrated Intel GPU or an Nvidia card? I don't know what you mean when you say that you "uninstalled NVIDIA"? Do you mean you uninstalled the Nvidia driver? You shouldn't do that if you have an Nvidia card in the machine, you need to have it. The Nvidia driver is connected to the standby functionality and since you uninstalled the Nvidia software, thats why you are having problems.

Not trying to sound insulting or anything, but you can't just go uninstalling stuff that is needed for the machine to function properly.

The "NVIDIA" of which you speak is probably your video driver, which is needed for a critical system component (your video card). The stand-by and hibernate functions are handled partially by your video drivers, so they are disabled since you un-installed them.

There is no way to fix this problem unless you re-install the Nvidia video drivers, as un-installing them was the cause of this problem.

It's like saying you bought a new car, but didn't like the steering wheel, so you removed it. Sure, it can move, but you sure as hell can't drive it.
