I know this has been done before...but after knowing each OS really well now and most OSes reaching maturity level.

    What is your favorite ?

IMO, nothing beats the trust worthy, fast/responsive, stable XP!

XP Pro 32 Bit FTW! Nothing beats it speed wise and can do all of what Vista / others can

Windows 7 RC1 for me. But I've always loved vista, started using it once Beta 2 was out.

Vista works very well. It's been rock solid for quite some time now, especially after SP1. So I chose Vista.

I will be upgrading to Windows 7 when it comes out. Can't wait.

I'm also in the XP Pro X86 camp. I've tried Vista several times, and I simply hate it, for various reasons. Lots of great hype re: W7, so I may give that a go at some point in the future.

Vista SP1. I don't know if it was SP2 or not, but Vista crashed and I had to reinstall - I tries everything. But SP2 beta was a beta...So when the offical SP2 comes out in April, Vista will be amazing.

Windows 7 constantly has little issues with me - imma keep it as a dual boot to play with once in a while.

Windows 7 BETA, that being said I would use Windows Vista as my main OS until Windows 7 went retail because using a BETA OS as your main OS is not a very smart thing to do.

XP 32-bit. It just works the way it's supposed to all the time. Vista never did that for me, and Windows 7 is a bit unpolished at the moment, such as having absurd hard drive usage at random times, and being amnesiacal about my wireless network credentials (although to its credit it doesn't have the Explorer folder amnesia problems that Vista does). I gave up Vista in 2007, and have been using XP a heavy majority of the time the past month and a half. For me, it's still better than anything else Microsoft has come out with. And non-Microsoft OS'es have the major compatibility problem, and I generally have problems easily getting all the drivers for them as well.

I'm actually using Windows 7 now for the first time in quite awhile, though. The beta fish lured me in, I suppose. But as I use XP 90% of the time when Win7 is free, I really can't see myself paying money to sidewaysgrade (as opposed to upgrade or downgrade) from XP to Windows 7.

Is it bad that my main gripe with vista is that it runs Diablo 2 laggily? ~blush~

That said, I'm loving Vista Ultimate since SP1, currently looking for another linux distro (currently using ubuntu 8.10).

Windows 7. Even though no comps at home run it anymore (I wanna install it on my netbook but I'm not allowed to until it's final :|). I'm slowly getting bored of Windows XP personally :p. Come on, it's an 8 year old OS :<.

Vista's OK for me, I don't hate it.

There is no WAY I'd use a beta as my main OS, too worried about security issues.
Whilst my system specs could run Vista, I don't want my RAM eaten by the OS, I want applications to use it. So sticking with XP..

Vista Ultimate 64bit for now and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit when it comes out.
4gigs of ram is plenty enough for superfetch and my programs thus making vista very responsive and much faster than XP.

Silas, in this form that is plain wrong - in fact, Linux comes with 100 odd games right out of the box.

Its the so called "popular titles" that often aren't released for Linux.
Although, if I remember correctily some version of "Civilization" mentioned Linux on the box....

If Linux is easier to use is difficult to say - it depends from where you are comming.
If you really have spent most of your life on Windows, getting into Linux is a touch difficult. (e.g. installtion, Windows a doubble click, as of SUSE 10 some command line...)
If you start with Linux you have far more possebilities than in Windows.

Safer - yes, Linux is one of the safest, in terms of being actually hacker safe and malware, although the malware angle is more affected by the number of copies used worldwide, and Windows is amore attraactive target.

Linux has gained a lot on Windows for "immediate ueability" and maybe Windows has even lost some.
At the moment Lnux will have its core supporters - and they will be able to exploit its abilities more than Windows users, but in some aspects Windows is still easier to get into...

Vista x64 Ultimate SP1 for me, dual booting xp too, but XP is mainly to be fair only for when i want a super quick few minute loading to check something or even play my gamebridge as Vista 64bit is incompatible as no 64bit drivers are available, can't wait for service pack 2 to be released.

you're one of the runaways. vista works great nowadays and is on a proper system just as fast as win7. they're mostly the same anyways. your system should be proper enough for it. you don't get anything out of a win7 installation that you don't get from a clean vista installation. except that it'll continue to work after august.. :)

I like Windows XP now since it uses lower disk space than with Vista, and it plays the games I need at better speeds. The only thing that I like with Vista is the WASAPI loopback capture, for example, that's how Fraps gets the direct Vista audio stream to record from. Also Windows 7's audio mixer is very nice (more improved than Vista's)! Windows 7 gaming performance is better than Vista, and better, or same on par with XP (well last time I tried, didn't configure it correctly then, no benchmarks). The only problem with Windows 7 program compatibility is that I have to wait for GameGuard and Daemon-tools to release an update soon. :)

I personally use Linux. It is by far the best when it comes to procurement of applications (since they are all located at one place). It's secure, and extremely customizable, and is making great strides in ease of use (though still lags in some areas, for example, installing programs in rare instances).

Windows 7 is my current favorite Windows. It is visually appealing, very efficient, and well organized, with everything being more centralized.

Currently, I use Linux for most of my needs, using Windows programs in Wine or booting Windows when I need to (CAD and games). However, I intend on setting up a virtual machine, so that I don't have to choose which OS to boot. All the convenience of Linux with all the compatibility of Windows.

Yeah, maybe Pac-Man and Tetris, but who plays them now?

If they get support of major software and computer games companies, like Windows gets, maybe they'll have more market share. But that isn't happening.

I dunno guys; I had a chance to revisit the good old days of WinME last weekend (reinstalling on an ancient Compaq laptop in order to try and get some stuff off the equally ancient hdd), and if quick boot times and low hdd usage are what make an OS a paragon amongst OSes, then I'd have to say you're all wasting your time with anything other than WinME - booted in an instant, even on an ancient 800MHz cpu, and even with all the bells and whistles still comfortably fit in less than 4GB on the hdd.

Then again, maybe those criteria aren't quite up to the tasks they're being put to here, eh? :D

After my Manager got fed up of Vista and it's issues...hanging all the time...issues w. Adobe...just acting like an irritant...he opted to throw the entire Dell OptiPlex 755 machine out the window...but I said to him...hold on there big guy...don't throw it just yet...how about giving Windows 7 beta a try. (Mind you I hadn't tried 7 myself as yet) I got it for him, he slipped it into the DVD drive and within approx. 18 minutes he had Win. 7 loaded up on his once troublesome Vista machine...and he never stopped smiling since (no more issues; the darn thing is still in beta and much more stable than Vista; and it uses much less resources and processes out the box)...he even convinced me to install it on my computer and overwrite the old faithful XP Pro. I hesitated for a couple days but I eventually succumbed and redid my XP machine and to this date I have NO REGRETS. So now I use Win. 7 at work and XP Pro at home...I don't care what anyone says...7 owns all...I still love you XP. :p

PS: I honestly don't know what ppl see in Vista except for a pretty face...The thing is a resource hog. Horrible attempt of an OS...to each his own.

you can just use vista right now and have most of win7s features :) i know quite some people who disliked vista, tested win7, loved it, and after some days moved "back" first time to fulltime vista, and realised they love it, too :)
