What's the best alarm cloak software for Windows? Needs to be able to wake the computer from sleep/power-off preferably. Free is best.

I use outlook but it needs to be running and PC on so probably doubt that. Maybe just buy a real alarm clock :p

I don't think that's possible without an external device or another computer connected. I've heard of wake on USB/LAN/WLAN... but no programs can run during sleep as far as I know.

Haven't found one that wakes the laptop yet. Tried several free ones, and not one could wake it...
If you find one, let me know :D

Other than some pieces of hardware, such as some network cards, I'm not sure that any software can wake the computer off from power-off mode.

As others have mentioned, buy yourself an alarm clock, or use your cell phone's alarm mode.

Hrm...all the alarm clocks I've used with OSX were able to start up the computer at a set time though...I guess it may be a Mac-only thing, although I don't see why it would be.

Cell phone alarm clocks aren't loud enough for me unfortunately, and sad as it is, I already have multiple stand-alone alarm clocks. I just hate getting up in the morning THAT much. Ah well.

    thanks for the replies.

There was a thread here about folks finding out that their machines were automatically waking up from a sleep state or even hibernated in the middle of the night. In that thread there was discussion of the fact that some BIOS-s do have an option to power up the machine at a particular time. Vista is capable of recognizing such capability and if you schedule a middle of the night event in Vista, like a virus scan or update, Vista can invoke this BIOS wake up function.

So if your BIOS has this option than you might be able to find a Vista aware alarm clock to do what you want.

Yeah, I didn't realize it, but apparently Vista does have the ability to wake your machine from sleep (BIOS-permitting, I guess). I've attached a screenshot showing the option in Task Scheduler. I haven't tried it, but I would think you could just use the built-in Task Scheduler as your alarm clock program. (It's a little bit complex for an alarm clock program, though!) Try creating a new task, and use an audio file (mp3 file for example) as the Action, and check the wake-up box.
