After windows update finished installing its latest software patches I restarted my computer.
Shutting down and restarting took longer than usual which I thought was strange, however upon using windows I noticed that all my personal (pics, music, documents etc.) files had been wiped and where nowhere to be found. I managed to get them all back by going to system restore but am wondering why/how this could have happened so I can try and prevent it in the future. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. :)

Sometimes windows "forgets" the user account and your desktop/docs will appear to vanish, but it's fixed by simply restarting the computer.

I don't have a clue why this happens.

Perhaps re-starting it after the update will restore the machine. Have to give that a try

This round of Windows updates is doing some weird things. I'm getting BSODs on hibernate that I never got before, but it seems they're gone after the most recent (yesterday) patch.

Back your stuff up before you go restarting again.

The issue's are now fixed. I had a look at his machine. Seems something was wrong with windows update. Had to do each update individually; nothing went wrong then...
