After windows update finished installing its latest software patches I restarted my computer.
Shutting down and restarting took longer than usual which I thought was strange, however upon using windows I noticed that all my personal (pics, music, documents etc.) files had been wiped and where nowhere to be found.I managed to get them all back by going to system restore but am wondering why/how this could have happened so I can try and prevent it in the future. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes windows "forgets" the user account and your desktop/docs will appear to vanish, but it's fixed by simply restarting the computer.
I don't have a clue why this happens. -
Well its just happened again tonight. Im so annoyed...

Perhaps re-starting it after the update will restore the machine. Have to give that a try

This round of Windows updates is doing some weird things. I'm getting BSODs on hibernate that I never got before, but it seems they're gone after the most recent (yesterday) patch.

Back your stuff up before you go restarting again.

The issue's are now fixed. I had a look at his machine. Seems something was wrong with windows update. Had to do each update individually; nothing went wrong then...
