First of all I hope you all had a nice 4th of July, I know I did.
This one has been bugging me for awhile and I don't understand this. I have a HP dv2109nr with the Intel 945 Express Chipset. It has 128MB of video memory and showed this in all sources (games, DxDiag, the Intel controll panel "Information" button, etc) When I bought it. I did a clean install of XP Pro because I can't stand factory loads, installed all updates and drivers, a few months back. Now in all sources listed above, it shows that I only have 32MB of video memory. I wonder if this has anything to do with the upgrade from XP MCE to XP Pro, because that's the only thing I can think of.
I work IT helpdesk for the state and so I did the most obvious things I could think of before I came to forums. I have the latest Intel driver, 6.14.10.4926, and have been up and down the BIOS, not that they have many options. As a note, in the BIOS under video memory it says "Up to 128MB (Windows XP only)", and has no way to change those settings.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated because it' kind of bothering me. All games and programs run like I have the full 128MB, but state that I do not have so.
    Thank you!

No ideas anybody? I wonder if I reload using the HP recovery set, even though it's loaded with trialware, it would display the full 128MB. Worth a shot? Or does anyone have any clues??

I think in the bios you can change how much "dedicated" video ram to use up to 128mb, you want the computer to use. I would boot up to the bios and see if you can change it... (that's my shot in the dark..)

Thanks for the shot in the dark, HPDV6700 :)

A co-worker of mine suggested that XP Pro won't read all of the video memory even with correct drivers in the same manner as a 32-bit OS only reading 4GB physical memory. He continued with saying that reinstalling MCE would correct this issue, even though this is not what I want to do for performance reasons.
Is he full of crap or is this a possible explanation?

He is full of crap. Check your bios. The correct amount of memory allocated to the igp should be listed there.

I was thinking what he said sounded kind of fishy. Oh well he deals with carpet fuzz users all day so I guess he can make up whatever he wants. I've looked through the BIOS before and it says I have "Up to 128MB of video memory" with no options on that. Latest BIOS too. I'll check again though.
    Thanks Ayle! :)

Some of you guys have no idea wtf you're talking about. The Intel 945e chipset is an IGP that is older than the X3100. IGPs dynamically allocate VRAM as they borrow their memory from system RAM, so you're going to get a lot of different answers.

To both Bog and Tinderbox, I understand what you're saying, but why would the old MCE installation always show 128MB and the Pro new installation always shows 32MB?

So do your games that require more than 32mb work the same!, if they do then there`s no problem.

maybe "XP MCE" was giving you the wrong memory size, anyway it`s better for you to have a dynamic memory size as you will have more memory free when you are not gaming!

I'd say that we're back at square one. I think I'll just bite it and install the loaded-with-crapware MCE on it, unless anyone has any last minute breakthroughs?

?? What's the issue being discussed here?

The 945GM dynamically allocates up to 224MB of your system ram depending on your programs needs and how much RAM you have in total.

My Dell Inspiron 6400 always says 224MB under 'Display Properties --> Settings --> Advanced --> Adapter --> Memory Size' and I have 1GB of RAM. I run Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel driver version 6.14.10.4446.
