I just got a new HP DV7 about 4 months ago and it works great. one of the 1st pop ups I got after setting up my computer was, Allow Microsoft to collect data from your computer. I always hit no and it kept popping back up every once in awhile like once every other week or so. Not to long ago I hit yes by accident. where do i go to edit that ?
Im just one of those paranoid guys and dont feel comfortable anyone or anything collecting data off of my PC. only time that doesnt bug me is my virus scanner collecting data and sending in the report if I ever got a virus.

I don't think I've ever had something ask me to let MS collect data. You sure it was legit?
If you've got a lot of bloatware on the PC, you might want to kill two birds with one stone and reformat the machine. Just thinking... -
it looked legit. i Remember seing it on another PC to at some point. its one of those help or suggestion pop ups that you get when u get a new PC. like i got some help pop up from HP to help guide through this and that with windows 7 and all that. I turned all that stuff off or hit no. I kept getting that allow microsoft to collect data or info from your computer pop up every other week or so. and I scan every day

It's part of Microsoft's customer experience program. I think Office prompts for you to join when it's first opened. It can be turned off in the preferences.
Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program -
where is preferences ?
-
In Office, if that's the program that was prompting you. Otherwise, it's in the preferences/options of whatever program caused the prompt.

I installed microsoft 2003. maybe it came from that but do i open up word or where do i go exactly to find preferences ?

think about it: if you allow it, it does not mean they collect any personal information. just clicks in their apps to see how you use their apps, so they can improve it based on your usage.
office 2007, office 2010, and windows 7 heavily evolved thanks to that data.
so if you want to have windows/office evolve in your way, just leave it enabled.
anyways, for windows its there: Enable or Disable Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program | MSTechPages
in office (2010), i found the option in file->options, security center->settings, 3rd checkbox. -
So that is how Microsoft completely crapped up Office 2007 and beyond. Their "improvement" sucks. The rearangement of menus is brainless and imposable to find simple tasks.
-
the changes are drastic but once getting used to, it is much better than before.
