Haven't used IE in many years. Now I just tried IE9 for fun and man this thing loads pages instantly, like in Firefox or Cyberfox, there is always a 1 to 2 sec lag before the page actually starts to render, with IE it's as if the page was stored locally or accessing it from an Intranet, I am blown away by the speed! and this is IE9 not 11!
The reason I can't use IE10 or 11 is because it breaks the Aero interface with its bundled upgrades.
2 questions:
1) how come an old IE is so much snappier than the latest and greatest Firefox?
2) is there any risk in using IE9 and not IE11 provided I have an Antivirus, MVPS Hosts file, Tracking protection list and all Windows updates?

Have IE11 on my T500 running W7, and Aero's perfectly fine. IE11 is certainly quite snappy; the only reason I don't use it as my primary browser is because FF is more easily customizable.

On some machines the one update KB2670838 with windows 7 breaks DWM and all of AERO. This is not all machines though, it does so on my Gateway P79xx and GTX 260m. It is an issue M$ has known of for well over a year and still has done nothing about either.

KB2670838 is required for IE10, IE11, and new games which require DX11.1 such as the UE4 title Daylight. However, the platform update also breaks a ton of stuff including some non-DX11 games and DX11 apps which have not been patched after the update. If you have IE10 or IE11 installed and remove KB2670838, IE also automatically gets uninstalled.
M$ really needs to get its stuff together. It's been 2 years. It's unacceptable to have to keep installing and uninstalling a Windows Update depending on what programs you want to run.Ferris23 likes this. -
Funny thing is, the transparent task bar works with IE and Windows 10, not all of aero is killed. So it looks like they know how to fix it but don't.

EDIT: Nevermind, just remembered that NOD32 Antivirus will keep displaying an amber icon until all updates are installed except hidden or optional ones -

I remember someone saying vanilla IE without any addons is indeed snappier than Firefox or Chrome. My own experience with vanilla IE9 and Firefox with like 11 extensions and 15 plugins points to that being true. No idea about Chrome.

There used to be an extension for Chrome to overcome that but it has been discontinued even if I force install it, it won't work -

I was genuinely curious. On PC I haven't used anything but Chrome for 3 years. Just wondering how the others currently stack up. -
lol don't worry about it then
in any case Ferris23 is probably the best person to ask, and seems like he's already given an answer.Ferris23 likes this. -
Even though IE has the best system integration with Windows, and has true hardware acceleration.... it still performs worse on online browser benchmarks, and seems to always be playing catch up.
Also for me it's just simply not cross-platform, which is something i look for in a browser. Also it seems to shower me with popups AND it lacks customization and decent add-ons.
Been switching back and forth between chrome and firefox since 06'.
Am I crazy or is IE really snappier?
