My mom asked me to take a look at her laptop a couple days ago because all for some weird reason when she goes into My Computer and selects any folder or drive, when you double-click on it or just hit Enter while the folder/drive is selected, it brings up a search window instead of opening the folder/drive. The only thing I could think to do is reset all folder options to default, but that doesn't seem to fix it.

Anybody have any idea how to get it back to normal (i.e. opening the stupid folder instead of searching it)?

    Thanks

It seems like you have a sticky key problem, since when you normally press shift + enter/double click, you go into explore mode.

To solve this goto control panel, accessibilty options (the wheel chair icon), on the keyboard tab you should have all boxes deselected.

Let me know if this solves it. BTW this problem might have started by pressing the shift key multiple times after each othre, after that windows gives a message to ask you if you want to turn sticky keys on, and you/your mom might have just accepted without taking notice of the message ... usually you should just press cancel!

Thanks for the help guys. Qwester, I tried your method first, but all the boxes were already unchecked. Luckily, I did the regedit and that seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the help guys.
