Here is what happens every 10, 5, 30, 90 or 2 minutes:

I then need to send the comp into stand-by by closing the lid and revive it. This usually works, but sometimes (1 case in 7) not just screen crashes but entire comp and I have to hard-reset it.
Compaq V6065ea
Turion X2 2Ghz
GF Go6150
4GB Ram
It happens only in Windows 7 x64. It does not happen in XP x64 or Linux x64.
I tried 4 different nvidia drivers (modded and not, newest and from 2008) and drivers form Windows Update - made no difference.
I reinstalled system on freshly formated drive trice, with different 7 releases.
It usually happens when the CPU is barely used (but then again, it's like this most of the time).
If I can't solve it, I will have to go back to XP 64 where I have to sacrifice 1GB of ram to enable hibernation and most modern antivirus programs do not work.

up.
come on -
which video drivers have you tried.
after updates to the latest few i get bsod so revert back to 186.81 which have never caused a problem.
if youve tried them then i have no idea -
Uninstall the nvidia driver and see if it works fine. It might be something else.

I tried
256
195
190 (modded)
180
Looks like I am going back soon to xp64.

This may be similar to the issue native to some Acer laptops (incl. my own).
The image has a tendency of turning grey for no apparent reason at random intervals (although it was relatively frequent at first, I found a way to prevent it from happening for at least a month).
The trick in my case was to remove the plastic casing where the power button is and tug the gpu cable a bit.
After that I opened/closed the lid again and the image stabilized (no problems occurred for about a month ... after which it started happening again).
It's not a big issue (in Acer's that is) because the gpu cable connections apparently get a bit loose due to continuous opening/closing of the lid.
I'm not sure if that's the case with your laptop, but it certainly doesn't hurt to try. -
Thanks but I doubt it is hardware-related since the problem is restricted to Windows 7.
I am more inclined to thing it has something to do with CPU when it goes into low-freq mode. I am using RMClock to undervolt it and what I observed is that when it happens at at 800Mhz @ 0.675V, I am able to recover it with "Sleep" function but at 800Mhz @ 0.662V it usually doesn't work.
The thing it, it also happened when I was not using RMClock and let windows manage the CPU by itself at stock voltages. -
Some update.
I checked and the problem OCCURS in:
Windows 7 x64
Windows 2008 R2 x64
Windows 2008 x64 (and so I guess in Vista as well)
Windows XP x32
Problem DOES NOT occur in:
XP x64
Ubuntu 64bit
Arch Linux 64bit
Any ideas? -
I think your graphics card is starting to show signs of near failure. Have you heard about nvidia g84/g86 problem? Maybe your card is affected.
-
Yeah, I think so. It is this damn HP unique design of implementing stove function into their laptops.
-
It's just matter of luck how fast the laptop dies but quite often it can be resurrected with a little work. -
Here is something that flabbergasted me: I replaced the Motherboard with another one and... THE PROBLEM REMAINS! How is it even possible?!?

bump.bump..
Annoying recurrent graphical crash
