Recently, Windows Live Essentials has been appearing on windows update as an 'important' update (rather than an optional one). The first time it appeared, I installed it (despite not wanting the program) and it automatically upgraded my version of windows live messenger to the newest one, which I did not want. I then completely uninstalled live essentials in order to download my preferred version of messenger again, and since then it repeatedly appears on windows update. As I'm running windows 7, updates which supposedly need installing (including this annoying program) automatically do when I go to shut down, meaning I keep having to install them manually and de-select live essentials when I do this.
Is there any way of permanently disabling this update from appearing? I'm not interested in installing this program and I don't see why it's considered an important update anyway. It's just really irritating having "new updates are available" every time I turn my computer on, only to find that it's this program rather than something which is actually important. I've tried searching for solutions but couldn't really find any (most people were having problems with a bug that halts the windows live installer when it's halfway done, but I don't want to install it at all!!)

My guess is-try to go to Installed updates. Maybe you need to delete smth there.

You can right click over any update and "hide" it. Be sure to click ok/apply at the bottom.
I don't have WLE installed at all and never get update notices for it. -

it's an important update because besides all the new thing, it fixes a lot of security holes of the older messengers. move on and learn the new stuff instead of hating it and staying old, getting older and older.
else, just hide it, as anseio said.
