    Yeah Paint.NET is something that I've been using for a long time. It has a .vtf plugin - I use it to make my Half-Life/Team Fortress 2 decals. Too bad I can't really mess with .gif though ; ;

Paint.NET is good, but I prefer GIMP. It's more like Photoshop and took me less than ten minutes to figure everything out. Best thing is, it's free and works with Mac and Windows!

I've been using paint.net since about 2.0 so yeah, it's an awesome program. But don't link to the beta, it has problems and then people ill start to crab about having problems so just link to the official.

I know someone earlier has referred to GIMP, but how does this compare to GIMP and GIMPShop in terms of power/user-friendliness?

Isn't as powerful but it has a lot better GUI if you ask me which is why i use it, it does all that i want it to and it's better looking than gimp, i don't want anymore.

    Hmmm....

Might have to give this program a look (as GIMPShop doesn't like my new PC, install always freezes on "font" mode)...

    Looks cool though!

GIMPshop isn't all that useful. It claims it's supposed to give you an easier learning curb coming from Photoshop, but all it does is add a grey background window and renames the tools. That's about it...

As for Paint.NET I like their semitransparent windows which makes it easier to work with. I would recommend this for someone who thinks Photoshop is overkill for quick image retouching.

Can you make as subtle tone and color transitions in Paint.NET (and GIMP) as in Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2? And have they warp net?

That can be considered trolling. If you want to talk about a totally different program than the one specified as the topic:
At least make it discussion worthy so it doesn't turn into a flame war.

Sorry, but it is true, GIMP is better but Paint.net doesn't take 2 weeks to get used to. :D
Is that trolling? Sorry I didn't state my reasonings. :(
There both good, Paint.Net is easy, & GIMP is hard.

That's much better, it displays your thoughts a lot clearer. :) I agree with you on that, which is why i picked PDN instead of GIMP. I only do mild photo editing so i don't want a learning curve.

It get's easy after a while.
I made my sig in GIMP :)

Is it possible to manually push and drag shapes in Paint.net, like you can do in Corel Paint Shop? So far I have only found "Effects/ Distort/ Bulge", which enlarges or shrinks areas on a big scale. I need to enlarge and shrink smaller details.

Is there a grid net with which you can drag out and push together forms?

Does anyone else have unusually high CPU usage when using this program? My fans kick in and the CPU usage gets up to 50-60% when I'm using this program sometimes. I've never had it happen with any other program.
