Besides joining various membership groups offering free access to 7 and being on (or begging someone at your school to put you on) your school's MSDN AA free MS software program, there's a third way to get Windows 7 very cheaply...like 30 dollars cheap. They've done this using the "Ultimate Steal" site but that was with Vista Product (Red) and that costs 60 bucks!

If my school's MSDNAA admin isn't able to add 7 to our software library, I'll probably go that route, as that price isn't bad at all!![]()

This is true; all you need is a valid .edu email address and you can get a $29.99 download of the OS. You can have the disc shipped to you for an additional $13. More info here: http://lifehacker.com/5361566/get-eight-windows-7-licenses-for-19-if-youre-a-tech-student and www.win741.com

This is just an upgrade version and you can't order both 32 and 64-bit versions at the same time.
-
Reading comprehension FAIL on my part
Sorry guys... -
What does it matter if it's "just an upgrade"? Of course this is EITHER 32 OR 64 bit; It's a digital download. I don't think it would be any other way. Anyway, what's the point of getting a disc that includes both 32 and 64 bit when you product key will only work for either 32 or 64 but not both. I have 32 bit vista and I'll probably upgrade to 64 bit 7...
How can you argue with $30? -

Hey everyone,
Just giving you a headsup! Microsoft is offering Windows 7 Home Premium OR Windows 7 Professional for just $30.00 bucks for qualifying students! All you have to do is provide a college domain email, and you're done. I've already got mine ordered.

My school MSDNAA only offers Windows 7 Professional....
...but it's free lol -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
MSDNAA FTW!
But I'll still buy Ultimate. -
-
30$ is basically nothing. To bad I don't go to college but I will ask my sister to buy it for me, muahahaha
-
-
only? professional > home ..... so thats fine imo. -
Yeah well we're not on the "official" MSDNAA list of schools, but we've got an agreement with them for our computer & software engineering programs(the other programs aren't eligible). Basically, all the stuff we need is free.
-
So will I be able to do a fresh clean install with this? I just burn the download to a DVD and reformat the hard-drive and install the OS?
-
Windows 7 Home Premium for $30 with a valid .edu email address.

Edit: This has already been posted in the windows 7 forums. If it's against some policy feel free to delete it. -
It would be great except that most college students on NBR already have Windows 7 Professional for free, if this thread is to be believed:

Rejoice MSDNAA? -
MSDNAA only applies to students that have a technical or science/IT based major, everyone else falls to the wayside, so for people like me, that are ExSci majors, if i didnt already have a subscription to MSDNAA, this would be quite useful.
-
Yes MSDNAA offers free Windows 7 to people in an IT or computer related program. For everyone else it varies depending on the school. For example, at my school, no other program is even in MSDNAA(my school isn't listed on the official site)
-
I don't know if everyone has seen this so I figured I would post it up. Win 7 32 & 64 bit for $30 USD to people with proper .edu emails. Hope people find this handy. I know I have.

Question... Is there anything different between the Windows 7 Home Premium that comes with this deal and the version that I will be getting for free since I bought a new laptop in August? Like I have heard you can not do a clean install with the disk I will be getting as part of the "free upgrade program"... Would I be able to do a clean install with the disk I receive if I were to get this $30 deal?
-
What about Canadians?!
-
Would I be able to use the Windows 7 Professional download on my Vista Home Premium PC? I know that I can't "upgrade", but does that mean that it won't work with my computer period or just that I'd have to install it as a separate OS?
-
can i upgrade from my 7057 build (yeah i know its been a long time) and be able to keep all my files with no issues?
-
Smart thing to do is go a good system image backup as a just-in-case, use Windows Easy Transfer for your files/setting and save the file somewhere, then do a clean install. -

Depending on which school you go to, you might need to check with the school as they might not be on the "official" list on the amin MSDNAA site(mine isn't for example). -
I'm hoping my school gives it for free, they gave us office ultimate something like that for free..
-
Ok so i can get windows 7 for 39.99 because i am a student so should i get windows 7 or not is the question also should i get 32 bit or 64 bit. I understand its a preference on which version i should get but i just want some feedback.
-
You might want to read the hundreds of threads on the Windows 7 board. I'm sure you'll find some info there.
-
64 bit, to fully utilise your 4GB of RAM.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Get 64-bit, you are probably already running 64-bit Vista.
-
-
Also don't forget Dreamspark. Free Win Server2008 R2, which is pretty much Windows 7.
-
Another cheap way to get Windows 7....College Students Only though!
