I was experimenting with free-space wipers. There are some good ones available, but I have three complaints: first, they take bloody ages, second they must put a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on the drive, third, and this is the one that really got to me, standard undelete programs still can often come up with the names of deleted files, even if they can't recover them.

Now, it seems to me that there ought to be some way around all three of these problem and especially the third. There must be a program out there somewhere, or at least a workable method, for removing just the names of deleted files from the hard drive. Does anybody know of anything like this, or have any other relevant suggestions?
