What antivirus software would you recommend? Money is not a problem. I can't use Nod32 because my FE is not compatible.

I like AVG free. Search the forum for other posts. There are quite a few out there.

i used avg for a long time at it worked well but i did some research and its slow to update its new virus definitions. i use avast now since it protects in real time
anti-vir is a good one too but no realtime scanning

I was on the point of recommending NOD32, when I read that "it's not compatible" with your notebook. I have never heard of such a thing. Could you elaborate?

I think that NOD32 is maybe the best commercial antivirus out there, especially if you choose its silent mode. It doesn't hog system resources, does its job perfectly and doesn't announce every time it goes to the bathroom. :)

I use AVG free , like the other poster said its not a system resource hog, does its job very quietly and efficiently, ive heard good things about NOD32 but havent had any reason to bin AVG, would recomend not going with Norton used it for a short while had stacks of conflicts and it raped my system when i tried to uninstall it (although i believe they have brought out a tool to use after u uninstall it to remove the left over crap and fix and registry problems its caused.

No anti-virus programme is 100% most are in the high 80's low 90's on catch rates, where you get higher claimed percentages they have manipulated there programmes to be very test specific and dont produce the same catch rates when they are exposed to the real world. Depending on how paraniod and your surfing habits best to have a second stand alone (Mcafee-Stinger and i believe Ewido do one) antivirus that you can run in safe mode once in a while as well as doing the occasional free online scan (Trend and Ewido being very good) from what ive read the online scans tend to get updated quicker to respond to the latest threats

ps im as curious as Ervin on the Nod32 compatiblity issue, the only thing i can think of is that youve tried to install it along side another antivirus programme which can produce conflicts and false alerts. if thats not the case please let us know

As far as AV programs that you have to pay for, my experiences have been all over the place. Over the yrs, I think I've used just about all of them and the 2 that I really like is Kaspersky and TrendMicro. I won't go into all the details but if you google the 2 I'm sure you can find all kinds of tests that show just how good these 2 are. I've stuck with Kaspersky for the last 2 yrs because of ease of use and the you just get the feeling that the virus defintions are constantly up to date with the hourly automatic virus updates.

Common sense has always been my first choice for an Anti Virus. Parctice safe hex and you shouldn't need one...
