    Hello People!

I am thinking about upgrading my internet security software and can't really decide on what programs to choose.

I would like an Antivirus and Firewall for my new laptop and there is so many of them there..

Could U help me with some of your opinions??

I am looking for something that doesn't need many resources of the comp (ram, cpu) and also is very good in terms of decetion.

I don't need anti spam, but anti spyware protection would be handy.

    What do U suggest??

I use the free Avast antivirus and Sygate Personal Firewall. Both consume minimal resources. I also recommend the free ZoneAlarm firewall.

Do U have any tests between them??

I am using Kaspersky IS6 now, and it is very good although it takes a bit of memmory. And those pop ups are very annoying, maybe its just the way I have configured it?

I only use my Netgear Router Firewall, which i tested with the "shields up" website and received an 100% stealth score.

Any software will only slow your laptop down.

I have been using the AVG free Anti-virus for years and it`s great.

Some Neatgear Routers have a built in Anti-virus, But not the UK versions for some reason, I wish they did, one less application to run.

    regards.

    John.

I'm using AVG Pro with firewall. 2yr license for same price as competitors (from my brief comparisons) who charge same for 1 yr. 33mb total ram usage as well :)

Ive been testing Nod32 and Zone Alarm Internet Security Suit and I actually like NOD32, it takes less than 19MB of memory! Ive checked their website and looks like is quite efficient.
So I think I am looking for good firewall now :)

NOD32 is the best AV, I'd recommend Sygate Personal Firewall over ZA. For free antivirus programs, I'd say Avast! > Avira AntiVir > AVG.

I have been using these programs for over a year and they work brilliantly:
    - Winpatrol for spyware. Consumes 3MB of memory
    - AVG Free. Updates often, non-intrusive
    - Comodo Firewall. I ran tests on this, it's perfect. Does everything.

For free AV, there is Avira, Avast, and AVG. Avira is the most accurate of these, but the most resource consuming and least popular. AVG and Avast are equal with each other, although AVG is more commonly recommended (it isn't better). For free firewalls, there is Comodo (good), the free version of Zone Alarm (not that great compared to the paid version), NetVeda (works best with 'technically-skilled' users), Jetico (again best with 'technically-skilled' users), and free trials of various professional products like Outpost. Comodo is pretty much the best of the free, and is comparable to the paid in performance. As with any choice though, it is best to download and try multiple and pick between which one you think is best.
