With Windows 7 being so new, what antivirus/firewall programs is everyone running, and what problems are you having? I am using Avast and Outpost Firewall and I haven't had any compatibility issues at all. I do not currently have any spyware removal programs yet, but I am thinking about installing Spybot...has anyone installed this on 7?

I didn't get my Win7 order yet, but I have been using Avira on beta and RC and it works great.

    Firewall - Windows Firewall

    Antivirus/antispyware - Microsoft Security Essentials

They're both free, lightweight, and invisible. What more could you possibly want???

The default windows firewall has no protection on outgoing calls. Changing from the defaults is very clumsy and the system does not provide helpful prompts when a connection you want to be valid is attempted.
I do hope that Zonealarm release a free WIN7 firewall soon...

Windows 7 and Vista do have bi-directional firewal, thus they provide protection both incoming and outgoing traffic. Windows firewall is much smarter than you thought. You have to know what are you doing.

Your comment about prompting on outgoing traffic is gimmic in network security. It is a long discussion, but Windows firewall did give you a warning on outgoing traffic in some occasions. ;)

It is strange how people can feel that such prompts make them secure behind a firewall while at the same time thought that prompts were irritating in UAC.

I didn't say it didn't. But the default doesn't and it is very clumsy to use compared to ZoneAlarm.

    Firewall - Comodo
    Antivirus - Microsoft Security Essentials

Used to use the default firewall, with all outgoing blocked, but it is such a pain figuring out what to let through. For instance, I have a network printer, with the outgoing blocked, it apparently blocked that as well, and I had to figure out what service/process to enable to go through manually, there was no prompt to ask if you wanted to let this one through, the only error you get is a network conneciton error when you're trying to print. For the more advanced users, this would be no problem if they know Windows in and out and its processes, but I really would not recommend it for standard users, I'd recommend Comodo, or ZoneAlarm or something of the sort that prompts the user to enable to disable.

the windows free firewall and no antivirus.

    why?

i think the only way to get a virus is to download something suspecios from a suspecios website aka websites warez etc etc

^^ Yup, agreed with above. While both Vista and 7 have in/out control for the firewall, enabling the functions is not easy. And they're not enabled by default.

I'm using PCToolsFirewall Plus 4.0. Similar to ZoneAlarm. Works on server 2008 too, unlike the free zonealarm/comodo.

I'm used to using MS's included programs, well, MSE you have to download separately but still. They don't have noticeable performance impact and less things I have to worry about updating; MSE updates through Windows itself.
