    Hi all,

I know there are quite a few threads discussing AV and Internet Security software, especially for Windows, all around the forum. However, I was interested in finding out what some of you fellow Mac users who are dual-booting with Windows are using for security?

I was thinking about getting Kaspersky Internet Security for my Windows partition. Anybody else using this and can offer some insight? Also, do you guys think I should just go with an AV and just use the Vista Firewall?

Maybe others will have a different answer for you but you most likely you will get more help on this matter in the Windows section. Since this is the Mac section most people are using OS X primary and Windows secondary for gaming and many of us use or MBP as a Mac only machine. The bootcamping crowd won't really have a different technique for Anti-virus than the peeps in the Windows section.

I hear good things about kaspersky, but i use avast! and i think its great. Doesnt take up much resources, doesnt slow down the computer one bit. You barely know its running!

I'm consistently in the minority on this. But, I stick to what I've said. You really don't need antivirus software on your systems if you are using a relatively secure browser, and you know what you are doing. I haven't used AV software for something like 7 years, and I've yet to have a problem.

This is better served in the Windows section.

I have not used Windows regularly in over a year now, but when I was, I like NOD32 if I was going to use an AV. The best bet though is common sense and good behavior.

    Moved.

Kaspersky, BitDefender, NOD32 are good. However, I found McAfee very handy.

How can you be sure you haven't had a problem? You 100% certain no one's sending your credit card data to Nigeria? Or your machine isn't part of a botnet? Good practices are a must, but there are so many ways and places to hide a virus in Windows, just good habits aren't quite enough. A periodic virus scan is a VERY good idea when you're running Windows connected to the Internet, do it every few weeks or so.

I'll put my vote in for AVG, but that's because I've just gotten used to it. I like the way it operates, and I can configure it to stay out of the way for the most part, and will run a scan when I want it to.

I vote for Avast! for Vista as well. Tried AVG, but I prefer Avast.. updates are more frequent and I like the interface/controlability better.
