VLC media player can play pretty much anything, it's fairly lightweight, and it's free.

If you need something that will play protected iTunes content, VLC won't work... at least, it won't work out of the box. I've run across this, which might help:

If that doesn't work, I think you are out of luck. -
I think Songbird can play protected iTunes files with the QuickTime Playback addon.

Songbird isn't light though... but that's interesting nonetheless.
