Has anyone on this forum switched from OS X to Vista. I am interested in comments on the switch especially those of you who have tweaked Vista for increased performance and eliminated bloatware. Thanks

i use vista on my newly acquired computer :)

performance is pretty good. no complain.

pretty good, but OS X is still better. remember that OS X is more efficient when it came to power consumption and battery life. load faster, less niggling annoyance (pop-up, lots of update, settings not saved?) though i must say apple hardware is troublesome.

and a nice surprise is wireless printing just works out of the box! u need to set it up though, go to printer, setup printer, new wireless printer, select the printer from the list, and you're done.

Thanks for the reply. I am thinking of switching from a year old MacBook Pro to a Sony AW series laptop. I plan to use the Sony as a desktop replacement so power consumption and battery life is not an issue. I have trouble with my MacBook Pro overheating and causing the spinning beach ball and the loud fans to kick in. I understand that by removing the bloatware Vista can run smoother. Have you found this to be the case? Thanks

What bloatware? Are you talking about the cruft that OEMs install as factory default applications, or actual bits of Vista?

I've used both and they're both fine to me. I think your OS choice depends more on the applications you need and how familiar you are with the OS itself. I find myself more advanced in Vista than OS X probably because I am a long time Windows User.

About Bloatware, it really depends on the company you buy the computer from. Most companies just like to put their software on to their systems which most of the time start up with the computer causing it to be slow. (Obviously, the more programs that have to start, the slower the computer is.) So, yes, removing all bloatware or reinstalling the OS will make the system start up much faster as I did with my m1730.

Thanks for the replies. I meant as ElSayed mentioned, removing the Sony bloatware and reinstalling the OS. Previous to my MacBook Pro I had a Sony A series with the 17" screen and Windows XP. I never had any problems with the laptop and the person I sold it to has not had any problems and the laptop is almost three years old!! I bought the MacBook Pro due to all the hype about OS X. I don't have any troubles with OS X but I do have problems with the hardware
