Just get an HDMI cable. Optical discs are overrated

The most important thing you need to do is transcode your video to MPEG2 format. -
WinFF is one way to convert avi into mpeg2 fast. DVD quality is limited to SD. If you convert a HD avi file to DVD it means you're only going to cripple the quality. Converting and burning takes time and sometimes you'll run into compatibility issues with the DVD player. Find a way to connect your video and audio source directly to your display.
