Since I may be giving vista a try again, I could purchase Vista SP1 now, or wait for SP2 (I'd rather have it already integrated for me on a retail disc, less hassle :p).
Any ideas when it will finally hit store shelves?

Considering what I have seen from Microsoft... a few weeks or 1 or two months, no actual date for it.

It would be a hassle for users to be prompted to download Service Pack 2 as soon as they begin to use their computer.

Did just that this past week; installed updates, including SP2, onto a system built with Vista SP1. I had a CD of SP2 from a prior system update, though, so it went a bit faster than a download at approximately 1MB download speed.

I have Vista SP2 installed (from Windows Update site) and it works quite well. I've noticed an improvement in boot times, and applications seem to load quicker as well.

Thanks for the feedback, I wanted to make sure if it was just me noticing the speed boost or everyone else did.

You must know someone who's either a TechNet or MSDN member. Just buy whatever retail edition you like and get a copy of Vista with SP2 integrated from MSDN or TechNet; the retail key you get when you buy your copy works fine on them. That's what I did as slipstreaming service packs with Vista is nowhere near as easy as it used to be in XP, although it can be done.

The install is long and tedious, luckily, my machine rebooted only once, but the download was lengthy, SP2-Bundled Windows Vista Installation Discs will make a lot of people's days, I bet.

Thanks everyone, but that's too much of a hassle for me :)p), I'm just waiting for the retail disc to hit store shelves and I'll buy it then. I've been reading that Vista SP2 is a good update, so I'll wait. :)

Let's keep this thread on topic. He is not asking how it's doing on your system. He is asking when it will hit store shelves.
