    I have firefox.

I was surprised to see some of the features in opera incorporated into Vista.

Thumbnail tabs(vista taskbar), sidecar(sidebar), widgets(gadgets), toolbar creation/customization is a simple process in both.

I wish you could right click on search fields of your favorite websites and add them to the vista search in a drop down menu. That is one of my favorite features in opera. I have a notebookreview search right in my browser.

Does anyone have a delay cycling tabs in vista now? How about when you close a tab, it takes a moment to dissappear. In xp pro, cyclicing was quicker then turning pages of a book, loading pages with high speed was like changing channels on tv.

I'm using the current 9.1 version and hope this is addressed in an update.

    I am an Opera fanboy.

Your post is a little hard to grok. When you say "Vista", do you mean "Internet Explorer 7"? When you're talking about tab performance, are you referring to Opera or IE? (or Firefox?)

Running Opera here and have been for years. It's still my favourite browser :)

And, I'm not quite sure what yer asking either. But, just in case, performance of Opera under Vista is the same as xp in my experience.

If you've tried opera and never liked it, you might see their newest features implemented in firefox soon, as IE and vista have implemented them into the new os.

    To clarify.

Vista(not IE) now has a feature on the taskbar called thumbnails. If your taskbar is loaded, you can hover your mouse and you will see a thumbnail of what that taskbar-tab is.

Opera has this feature on their tabs when browsing. When you have multiple tabs open in Opera, hovering your mouse over the tab will reveal a thumbnail of that webpage.

This used to be very quick for me in XP. Now I get a small delay, not just with the thumbnail popup, but cylcing/clicking through tabs.

It may be the skin I'm using and/or the fact that I have set all images in tool bars to show at 50% size. This maximizes my viewing real estate though, I have one skinny strip at the top with images only(plus the tab strip/bar).

To make it even slimmer, i've changed the border thickness of windows in vista appearance settings.

ps. you can see a picture of the customization here

Which browser is more secure, Firefox or Opera? What are the pro's and cons of each? Obviously Firefox is more popular but I am very intigued by Opera's features and look. Any reason why Firefox gets all the hype?

One more quick question. Do you have to use the built in torrent client in the browser or can you use another like uTorrent while you are browsing with Opera. Thanks for the help.

First let me say that firefox is not a bad browser, in my OP I state that I have it installed, I also use it.

Once firefox got tabbed browsing I started to use both opera and firefox. I've been with opera for years though, after I left netscape, and was unsatisfied with IE's previous versions, I gave it a shot.

Back then, tabbed browsing was not available(as far as I know) on any browser. It was much more quirky in the beginning, but I couldn't give up those tabs.

As far as security, I've never gotten anything malicious with opera and a firewall. I only run virus software for manual scans, not realtime. Its been years that I've been surfing this way. It has fraud protection as well.

Opera is not popular in the US because its a European company + marketing, but thats just a guess.

BT works for me using opera or standalone. Because opera's worked so well, I rarely use the other one now.

It has everything, that I personally need, built in. No need for google/yahoo/ebay search toolbars. You can right click on any search field, on any website, and add it to a drop down list on the toolbar.

You could take your personal search a step further, create your own personal search using googles custom search setup(requires registration). Then you can add that search field to opera with a right click. You now have a search engine, based on all your favorite websites, right in your browser.

Customization is really easy. You jump into appearance mode and click any field, tool bar, image, etc, and change it, build your own. You get the picture.

You can do most of this in firefox too, so its just your preference.

See how your browser stands up to the browser acid test: opera(9.1) renders the image correctly for me, firefox(2.02) does not, and neither does IE(7.0.6)

I have had Opera installed for a couple week once I read of its bittorrent feature. For some reason Opera is slow for me. There is a 5 sec or so delay for it to do things. No significant ram use or anything - I have no extensions or widgets installed. Therefore FF is still my primary browser

Since I use Opera I was hoping someone had some insight that was helpfull.

I actually found a solution to my problem, thanks to firefox users who experienced the same thing. Some Firefox users have implied its intentional, to bring the #1 browser down! Apparently the conspiracy extends to Opera and there are quite a few users who are claiming this with whatever their primary software is.

Thanks to firefox users and further insight from Opera users, I have opera running as good as it did on XP now. According to the Opera weekly build blog, 9.2 will have some new features never before seen in a desktop browser along with bug fixes.

Hopefully, the information below will be appreciated by both users, and lead you to an answer if your looking for one. Opera users will want to read the opera forum link as they have found a better setting to use with opera.

Note: Before you try anything below, try setting the advanced options of your program to run as administrator for all users. Make sure you have the the Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update as well(opera is listed) and if you use opera you'll want to see the basic checklist before you take the plunge deeper.
