Yesterday, after bringing the notebook in my sig out of hibernation, I got a message and sixty second countdown to shutdown. The message said that the shutdown was initiated by "NT Authority/System" because "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) terminated unexpectedly."

I've gotten this message a few times since I reformatted my HDD last July. Any ideas what this means?

What OS you have ? RPC service is very important to Windows mate and its set to restart itself if it stopped somehow but if it it continues then it will shutdown windows .

i would recommend you do a full scan of your system for virus ..

I agree with vinumsv. What SP are you running, and is it up-to-date with all the latest patches? Because MS released a few patches for this. You may have been hit by a blaster worm, so do a full system scan.
