    Hey,

I was wondering once I do a clean Vista install, then put on all of the drivers, tweak all the settings such as graphical settings and HDD indexing, etc etc, download all the updates via Windows update.

Is there then a way to create an Image of this installation onto a Dual/Single Layer DVD so that next time I want to re-format the laptop all I need to do is backup any data then run this disc.

This would eliminate the need to go through each time and tweak vista to the way I want it. I read something about a slipstream disc or something like that so it will include all updates I currently have, but would this also keep all preferences such as my Network settings, any changes to the GUI and any other tweaks to improve its performance.

Just wanting to save time as if Vista is anything like XP it will need a re-format every once in a while. I've only formatted my Acer laptop once in nearly two years. I am getting a new laptop in a few weeks though and want to know if I can create this sort of backup?!?

You can also create a custom installation disc with hotfixes integrated using vLite. Just make sure you start from a SP1 disc. (more details and nice documentation on: www.vlite.net)

Windows Complete PC Backup will do the job if you're using Vista Business/Ultimate, or you can try Acronis True Image 11 Home ;)

    Yeah, what niGht kiD said.

If you have business or ultimate, the built in backup option is the easiest thing to do.

Get Acronis True Image, saves you lots of headache from redoing Windows.
