I want the iPod that I just got for my birthday because it's sleek and it holds a good deal of music for its size, but I don't want iTunes because I hate it and it seems like really polished spyware that's always demanding more downloads.

Can iPods work with WMP 11?

If not, is there a program that will force it?

Well I am pretty sure there is no way to use WMP 11 with an iPod. However there are other free software options other than iTunes that work with the iPod. You can try Foobar2000 and get the iPod pluggin. However I have just started using Floola. It is a really nice program for managing your music on your iPod. However I think you still need to have iTunes installed for it to work (not completely sure about this though).

its one of those nice little things apple does to lock people in. Make it only work with their software and make it very hard for any other software to work with it. Thats the main reason I don't use ipods or for that matter any other apple stuff, it just locks you in to their DRM system. And people say Microsoft is bad, apple from my perspective is a lot worse with the anti-trust thing.
Not really sure of a program you can use to make it work in WMP. Guess you'll have to google it.

Depending which generation of Ipod you have, an open-source firmware called Rockbox would work. It's kind of confusing to use and can be a pain, but would allow you to synch with WMP 11.

I'll look into that when I get home later today. Thanks.

But I'm also looking at getting a Zune instead for the Wireless music syncing.

    That's very alluring.

Zune does NOT work with WMP 11 just to let you know... I know it sucks, but you have to use its own crappy software :/

As far as I know and researched there arent any solutions either unlike the various ones for the ipod.

The Zune can be modded to work with Media Player 11. Becareful with rockbox, usually once you rockbox a player its difficult to near impossible to go back to the original. It also voids your warrenty.

I'm getting an iPod nano 8GB in a few days...

Does iTunes have the option of being shown in the taskbar like WMP is shown? I was too wondering if I could maybe use the nano with WMP11. I really like it.

Also, is Winamp a good option to sync with iPods? I haven't used it in years so I don't remember.

My kids all use WinAmp. IDK, don't have (or want) a 'genyine Apple Iplod'. but WinAmp works, and I believe you can even use iTunes purchased musak if you have QuickTime Alternative installed.

    Another question about iTunes...

Does it only work if you have legally purchased music? :spinny:

It should as long as it is in the right format. However pirating music is never okay.
