    Hi guys,

I've got some folders on my computer which contain private stuff. It doesn't happen often that someone else uses my PC, but just for the case I wish I could protect these folders with a password or something like that so that not everyone has access to them.

Do you know a program which can do this? With XP itself it is not possible, as far as I know?

I already thought about putting the stuff into a password-protected .rar-file, but I guess there are easier ways?

    Thank you!

As far as I know the only way to do it is to compress the file, then add a password to it.

I think the native compression function in XP can do this. You have to right click on the folder, click compress then once it's done, you have to right click again and add a password.

(NB - this is from memory and I haven't done this for many years so the exact instructions may not be 100% correct)

Thanks for your suggestions! Folder lock is not free, as far as I understand? Do you know which restrictions the trial version has? Is it some kind of full-functional-unlimited-time-trial like WinRar?

The other way would be pretty much the same as my 1st thought, only using the XP compression tool instead of WinRar.

I tend to use www.truecrypt.org as I don't trust the commercial offerings to be truly encrypted, or secure. I know you can get around folder passwords easily if you boot off of a Linux LiveCD or something.
