I have an old scanner and mp3 player with xp drivers. Can I use some virtual machine thingie to do this? Don't really want to have to dual boot, and reboot every time I want to use the scanner.
(No, there aren't any updated drivers, cuz I guess they're that old)

If you're running Win7 Pro or Ultimate, you can install the XP Mode:
Download Windows XP Mode
If you have Home Premium... well... there are ways to make it work that are easily found by a web search. -
Before doing anything fancy, connect them and run Windows Update. It has a repository of drivers to make some old stuff function. It may even work without fetching anything from Windows Update.

This software will most probably get your scanner going. It worked for my old Canon scanner with no Win7 support.
Vuscan ... VueScan 9 Scanning Software for Windows 7, Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) and Linux
Any way to use Windows XP drivers in Windows 7
