Usually at some point when I am browsing with IE and Vista, the browser will freeze up and take a minute before it loads a page. Very annoying, and I am not sure why. I have a Toshiba Satellite dual core notebook which is a month old. I just defragged it also. 2 weeks ago I had a temp file corrupt and had to go through a long process where Vista found the problem and then fixed the file. it rendered the computer useless for about 45 minutes during the process. Maybe I just have a crappy hard drive? I notice it will click a little when IR freezes up, but I can still get to the desktop and do what I need.
Maybe this Toshiba's hard drive is not so great. What is a good free program to check it's integrity with?

Use HDTune to do an error check to see if you have any bad sectors (even though this doesn't seem to be a HDD error).
You could also try Firefox, it may not be the answer you're looking for but it's an excellent browser and may not be plagued by whatever is ailing IE. -
IE7? yes it is very laggy, and crashes more than total road accidents in the world every second.
I have started a campaign in my college to have Firefox on every comp..
i also ensure all in my family use Firefox or Opera...
U really dont need to use IE7... dont put yourself in a cage... escape & fly high in the sky like an eagle.
(i know i know...i am feeling poetic) -
just so happens I just used IE7 and yeah locked up on me...
No FF is my browser.. -
I was thinking install firefox as soon as a read the the title.
-
Opera! Same here, I use IE7 for some sites and it's a crash monger. Never had a crash on Opera since I started using it last year.

IE 7 just rocks for me. I haven't seen any crashes yet.

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Yeah I have that issue with IE7 also.
Switched to Firefox and no more freezing or slow loading pages. -
Actuall I experienced some crashes/freezing with FF.
-
Firefox crashes a surprising amount for me. I may switch back to IE if it continues.
If you want to speed up IE a little, you can turn off the phishing filter (if it's on). But either way it shouldn't be all that slow (except here on notebookreview where every browser is slow)... maybe it's a particular site or page that has some flash/javascript/whatever that it doesn't like? Clicking sounds in IE occur when it's trying to navigate back or forward, or maybe refresh the page, so there may be some javascript trying to do this or something. -

Make sure you don't have any unknown BHO's (browser helper objects) installed from spyware installed too. Click TOOLS -> MANAGE ADD-ONS. Change the "SHOW" drop-down menu to " ADD-ONS THAT HAVE BEEN USED BY INTERNET EXPLORER".
Another thing. Under TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, CONNECTIONS, LAN SETTINGS make sure that "AUTOMATICALLY DETECT SETTINGS" *IS NOT* checked. -
Make sure u Turn OFF the Internet 'Protected mode'
It ll improve IE7 performance by 60% IMO.
But u really must have a good reason to not use Firefox or Opera... they outperform IE7 even in their older versions. -
The only problem i have had with firefox is that sometimes when i click on the icon to bring up the browser it wont come up, but Firefox.exe comes up on the processes. so i have to end process from the windows task manager, then usually firefox comes back up, sometimes i have to restart the computer cause Firefox.exe wont end

Well, I must be the only one who doesn't have issues with IE. I don't see any slow down on my IE either.
