How are you guys liking it? I'm running a copy, and I'm pretty happy with it and I've had no problems. How's everyone else been doing?
I ask because I have an "older" copy of Office 2003 that is now unused, and I might sell it if there have been (and hopefully will not be) major problems with 2007. Come to think of it, how much do you guys think I could sell O2003Pro?

I was a beta tester, and bought it when it was released and have yet to have any problems with it... All my classes use '03 though, so i kinda wished i saved my money. Its easily a better office suit though.
-
its good, but i always have to save in compatibility mods 'cause the defult file is .docx
-
I like it. But like what aan310 says, I changed the default saving to .doc so others could read it.

I've got a PDF printer for things like that. FoxIt PDF Creator.

I love office 2007. It would be hard for me to go back to anything else now. Ribbon interface ftw.

I am running Office 2007 Small Business Edition. I havent found any problem using it. It works flawlessly and as long as you work in compatibility mode you can perfectly exchange the files to the older version of Office.
But i have to tell you to be careful with Office Add-Ins. Recently i have a problem related with it. My Excel suddenly crash on exit. Any files that i open when i tried to closing it always get a crash error. Even if i have no files open, just excel, it still crash on exit. I tried Office Diagnostic, i tried repair installation in Programs and Features, none of it works. Other component such as Word, etc have no problem.
I remember the last time i did to my computer is :
a. I installed bluetooth Enhanced Data Rate driver from Lenovo website. It activates the Enhanced Data Rate for my Bluetooth device. I have not tried this functionality.
b. I update my Outlook 2007 to fix large .pst files. I have more than 3 GB email and on some occasions Outlook seems to crawl when navigating between e-mails. I red this entry from msdn blog that Outlook have update to my situation :
http://blogs.msdn.com/rgregg/default.aspx
This update make access to e-mail faster. You should install this update only if you deal with large e-mail files or have multiple accounts that accumulated to large e-mail database. You can access the update here : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FD-1E09-49B6-9003-C4C47539DF66&displaylang=en
This update will not installed automatically from Windows Update. You have to install it manually by downloading the update from above link.
You may get "application mismatch" error after installing this update, especially for Office 2007 with Business Contact Manager. Install this fix to eliminate the problem :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...55-e4e1-4f67-a69a-3e6bf9b130f0&displaylang=en
If other Office program does not have any problem dont install this patch.
c. I Installed DivX codec to play some AVI files contains DivX codec. I install the codec only, without the player or converter. I can play any of the DivX files from WMP11 as the result of this update.
d. I updating my Norton Internet Security 2007 with some new virus definition and program patch.
So, as you can see, it was a busy night for me maintaining the update of the Thinkpad. And because suddenly my Excel crash on exit, i cannot easily determined the trigger of the problem which is which.
Googling i stumbled upon a website who have similar problem like mine (not exactly the same).
http://www.robweir.com/blog/2007/01/formats-of-excel-2007.html
Quote from the site :
"1/22/07, A quick update: Microsoft's Doug Mahugh helped track down and fix the crash problem I had earlier reported when exiting Excel. This is a bug in the"Send to Bluetooth" COM Add-in that Excel was loading at startup. After disabling that Add-in, I'm no longer crashing."
It turns out that the bluetooth add ins that cause the problem. I do not know who have the initiative to install the add-in : Vista, office 2007 or the driver installation package, it still a mistery to me. I immediately disabled the add-ins and voila! The excel works perfectly again. -
Here is a tip for keeping documents backward compatible: Change the default "Save file in this format" to Word 97-2003 Document. This way you don't have to remember to select it each time.
-
I use it and I find it much easier to find all the things help me do what I need to do. The only thing I find obnoxious is the way the Styles works in office 2007.. its somewhat tricky to use even though it shouldn't be. Kind of hard to explain how.. but then again I don't use it much (and its really easy with hotkeys to do what styles does, like CTRL-B and whatnot)

I have just recently been testing Office 2007, and even with compatibility mode enabled I have had issues switch from this computer to computers at my school which run Office 2003. There are minor discrepancies in the layout of my files :|
Anyhow, I actually prefer the more convoluted interface that Office 2003 provided, the main reason being was that it was very clean. I rarely need to actually dig to find any feature that I needed in Office 2003. I actually do not understand what the fuss was about to push to create the Ribbon. -
I have no complains, it seemed a bit odd at first, takes a bit of time to get used to the new UI. But once you get familiar, it is ok.
-
My old docs look ok, and my new docx look ok too. I had an issue with outlook. I would start it and it would close. Repair didn't help (but I had issues with my disk - so I did a reinstall and now it works).
And I like the addon Save as PDF - although the pdf seems to be bigger than the other PDF printers make - this addon can actually produce perfect PDFs from tricky Excel diagrams and graphics for instance. No other PDF printer that I tried was capable of such thing.

Groove + Vista (and XP?) + Dreamweaver MX = problems.
Groove + Vista (and XP?) + Dreamweaver CS3 = OK.
Otherwise I like it. Access is better, excel is better, word is the same (apart from the new toolbars). For me office 2007 is better than 2003. A bigger difference than XP and 2003 for example. Files are smaller and backward compatibility is OK.
Cheers,

Interesting thread topic. I've been wondering about this myself. I think Ivan answered this above--but has anybody had any problems opening older Office documents with Office '07?
I've had issues when copying files between PCs and sometimes even just files on the same PC before (formatting, etc. changes that I cannot explain yet are unbelievably frustrating). I'm sure that's all user error though.
I've got a huge database of Office files and I'm hoping that when I make the switch everything will be OK.
Again mentioned by Ivan: that PDF printer sounds very promising. It would be a great workaround from what I'm currently doing and may be worth the upgrade in itself.

I have both Office 2003 and 2007 running. I don't know maybe i'm not at ease at using 2007 with the ribbon thingy. I mean i could work faster in office 2003 by pressing continual shortcut keys. Like Alt-O-E-Enter. In excel 2003 like Alt-i-i-s-Alt-O-Alt-c contiually. I know you can do that in office 2007 but it merely shows a box saying.... "continue with office 2003 shortcut" and sometimes i'm quite lost because it says just continue.
The ribbon also makes heavy use of mouse clicking rather than on keyboard operation which is faster. Anyway, dows anyone knows how to show the menu bar like the office 2003? -
I have been using the Home and Student edition for about 3 months and find that I like it very much.
Word - This is the program I use the most. Because I was so familiar with Word 2003, I had to unlearn some things to be able to take advantage of the new user interface. Now that I have, I find that I really like it. I am saving my new documents as docx, but I have had no problems accessinig the hundreds of old doc files that I have on my hdd.
Excel - I don't use excel quite as much, and therefore I had less to unlearn. I have found that the ribbon helps me access functions much more quickly, especially the ones that I use less frequently.
One Note - I have to admit that I've become pretty addicted to this little program. In fact, it makes me want to take my laptop with me everywhere I go. I haven't used previous versions of this program, but the current one is great.
Power Point - I haven't used this since I was in grad school in '99. To be honest, I hope I never have to again. So, I can't offer any input on this one.
Overall I have really liked the new Office. I have had no compatibility issues and no program crashes. The new ribbon interface seems to help me find functions that I didn't even know existed, but it was frustrating at first to have to relearn some of the things I already knew. Going forward, I think that the ribbon will help me get more out of the both Word and Excel.
The last version of Office I bought was Office Professional 2000. It served me well for seven years. I feel like Office Home and Student 2007 is a substantial upgrade and at $149 is a bargain, especially considering that I can legally share my license with two more computers in my house. -
Powerpoint is easier than ever to use and offers some nice pre-built templates, whereas the last one had very bad ones

I really enjoy using Office 2007; I have the Ultimate edition and I've been using it since January. Every looks great, especially with Vista's Aero GUI, and it 'feels' much nicer than previous versions of office. The change to tabs instead of using drop-down menus is invaluable.
One small feature I like is how in Word, when you highlight text and then go to format it, the text changes automatically so you can see what it looks like without actually applying the change. -
-
I think they purposely made the 2007 Office formats incompatible with Office 2003 so that we would eventually have no choice but to switch over to the new one.
Nevertheless, I love Office 2007, however, I do not own it yet. I plan on picking up a copy sometime this summer.

Was given a promo copy during launch of Office 2007 & Vista Ult. I cant use Ultimate (Just basic) but I really like the new office. The only downside is the fact the company that I work for still uses 2002 sp3. So I get used to using that, then I bring work home, and use it on my laptop and the look is totally different. But it was free, I dont complain.
Anybody have Office 2007? Are you happy with it?
