So, I'm configuring my client's new R1F which came pre-installed with Vista Biz ..... Overall, it's a pleasant surprise, given all of the bad press Vista has received. It's surprisingly fast and is mostly intuitive. There is just one niggle I have to point out, but it's significant.
While installing programs (Office 2007, Windows Mobile 6, Nero 7), the machine goes off into installation world with virtually no information presented to the user. The PC slows to the point that one cannot get the Task Manager to load to find out what's dragging the system down. AND three times yesterday, I found that my extended times for installation of the afore mentioned programs and others was being delayed because the installation program needed me to intervene, but the "pop-up" window never made it to the top window. I've played with OS X enough these days to expect an animated bouncing icon to bring my attention to an app that needs my intervention - so why not Vista?
Anybody else notice the "pop-under" window thing?

Yes, sometimes UAC loads up under everything else for me too. More often when I access programs via the start menu.

I use Vista Home Premium and I have the same thing happen. I haven't been able to narrow down what it does that but I'll be sitting there like "come on" and then I look down in the taskbar and there is an orange box that didn't popup that is waiting for me to ok it. I have found that when I am installing programs on Vista such as after a fresh install that it is easier for me to turn UAC off for all of the installs and then turn it back on once I am done. This may save some time during heavy installs for new machines \ users.

For me, UAC pops up under other app when i open something that needs intervention, and than directly after switch to something else before it has time to com to the front. This only happens in some programs, the ones which load a bit slower.

If you are installing known safe programs, just shut off UAC for the time being Simply enter user accounts to do so. Due to the annoyance of UAC pop-ups I tend to shut it off when I am loading a known safe program, then I turn it back on after I am done. I like the extra safety it brings to my system.
Anybody have THIS problem in Vista? Pop-under windows?!
