Its been happening to me for a week now on Win 7 Ultimate x64. Event viewer has a boatload of:

"Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.
    ."

Manually installing the certificate didn't help either.

Yeah, I've was getting a boatload of them last week (Win 7 Enterprise x64). If you google around you will eventually find a link to a "fix" that seemed to work for me. It involved deleting the contents of some certificate folders and deleting a few related registry keys. It seems to have worked for me, I haven't seen those errors for 5-6 days now.

Here's the link: Windows SBS Native Tools console issues, SBS2008

    Here' what the link said:
"Based on my research, the issue can be caused by corrupted certificate data on the server. I suggest you try the following steps to test the issue:

    1. Backup and delete the contents of the following folders:

    C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\Content
    C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\MetaData

    2. Backup and delete the certificates listed under "Certificates" key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\AuthRoot\Certificates

Then, restart the server to check the result."

As always, be careful when editing the registry! No warranties implied!
