I absolutely hate bluerays and Powerdvd. The stupid thing always freezes or can never play a blueray from redbox. I clean the discs too to no avail. The discs are not even really scratched either. When the program crashes i have to force close it and than it takes like 10 mins for it to work again. I can't even eject my disc -_- With DVDs you were able to skip all the BS by going to root and stuff. They appear to have tried to DRM BD so bad that they have issues functioning *face palm* This is why i don't buy movies among other reasons. Anyone else in the same boat?
did i mention i hate technology and it never works due to terrible coding![]()

Also give Arcsoft TMT a try. You can try their free trial to see if it works for you. The movie studios don't want you to play their bluerays in your computer because it's so easy to copy, so they make it harder and harder to play.

It sounds like you might have an hardware compatibility problem with reading the redbox blu-ray`s and your notebooks blu-ray player, see if you can find a firmware update.
A lot of normal home blu-ray player have list certain disk/movies that do not play or have problems playing, firmware updates can help.

That BlueRay player doesn't seem to come with software so you will be in same boat as Original Poster. Also it has a feature to be able to play bluerays to your smart TV but: " Commercial DVD or Blu-ray movie titles won’t be played."

Hi,
I tried PowerDVD but it did not work when i got my laptop. Now i just use MakeMKV. It can rip the blu ray to an MKV file or stream it from the disk to any player that can play streams. -
Yes, Fred's method is good. Not sure the chapters are retained with doing that however. If you don't need chapters then that is OK.

Anybody who got the SE-506 did you get a y two head power cable as my BB version only came with an one head cable, and an standard usb 2.0 port is only 500ma not a lot of power for burning a blu-ray then it says you can connect it to a smart tv and play video files off dvd/blu-ray but it says the usb port has to be 1500ma which seems strange.

Hey, I also have a SE-506BB and it comes only with a one head usb cable. For what I read on the manual, one cant even connect another cable because it can damage the player/writer.... lol that usb cable that comes with the player is a complete joke, super normal.
The AV connectivity system is bull and Commercial DVD's and Bluray's CANT BE PLAYED even when drive is connected to a VideoPlayer like Mede8er 3D. Is it so hard to make an USB player that can connect both TV's and PC/MAC?
Damn companies! -

My last two notebook have come with PowerDVD 10 and they played Blu-Ray fine, I think that is the minimum certified working version in Win8now.
John.
Anyone else have a dog of a time with PowerDVD playing bluerays?
