I have 7 RTM x64 (Ultimate) installed and activated properly. I have the settings for WU as default; Install Updates Automatically etc...

But for some reason, Updates are downloading fine automatically but are not being installed automatically. I have to manually install them every time. And manual installation works perfectly.

    Anyone else seeing this?

You need to set them up to be installed automatically.

Go to Controla Panel>Windows Update> Change Settings. There will be a drop-down box and you need to choose the first option "Install updates automatically (recommended)"

I had this problem with Windows Vista a while ago. This is how I resolved it:

-Turned on UAC (mine was off) and restarted.
-Went to WU and set it to manual
    -Installed an update
    -Restarted
-set WU to download and install automatically and restarted
    -Turned UAC off, restarted.

Yea, I think I have this issue as well.
WoW...you shouldn't have to go through this to get it working right; If I have the time I guess i'll give this a try. Well 7 is still not Final, Final as yet so I guess it's excusable.

mines does that as well, but I dont mind it, either it installs when I shutdown or I manually install them myself. it doesnt auto download either

I prefer it this way even though its set to 'install updates automatically (recommended)'

Just for personal information in the case of further problems, in the Control Panel > Troubleshooting (I think that is the name, I don't have my system in front of me at the moment), there is an option in it to repair Windows Update.

I never had a problem to try it, but I think it's cool that such option exists, and potentially reduce the web searching/forum posting about Windows update issues.
