I made the leap from XP to Vista back in May 2007, when Vista was still brand new and rather unstable. I managed to stick with it, despite the slower speed and very HEAVY use of system memory, among other things. I never really wanted to go back to XP, instead just hoping that Vista would continue to improve and move forward....

My first Vista laptop came with MS Office 2007 (60-day trial) pre-installed and I also attempted to use it at the same time I was learning Windows Vista....it was more than I could handle with the stupid "Ribbon interface" and the changes made simply for the sake of making changes! I'm an accountant, we don't adapt to change very well, especially when it comes to the tools we depend on the most! I think I developed another stomach ulcer in the few weeks I tried to use Excel 2007!!!

Now MSO 2010 is here, but I'm still using MSO 2003 and haven't found any reason (so far) to give it up any time soon! I have MSO 2003 Professional, which includes Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher...I rarely use PowerPoint and don't use Access nearly as much as I have in the past, but the others are integral to my daily life and work...

I'm just curious is there are any other MSO 2003 holdouts other than me? Especially ones not using XP???

    Using Office 2010 myself.

The only thing that was new in Office 2007 and I use a lot is smartart. Word and Excel other than the new interface dont really have much new.

    Check out smartart:
Demo: Spice up your text with SmartArt graphics - PowerPoint - Microsoft Office

I dont think there is anything wrong with office 2003. It has been updated to save and read docx and xlsx files. I know many people who use macro heavy excel sheets like Excel 2003 much better.

We have 2003 at work - still on some of our XP systems (just not capable of running Vista so they left them till they pass their 5 year wear-out/rotation).
MSO 2007 has some advantages, but the ribbon was a pain. 2010 still has the ribbon but some of the more intuitive features are back into it. Their are some advantages for various programs (features, functions etc) but overall really boils down to what you like to work with. Programming functions in excel '07/'10 is easier with several updated capabilities - making it backwards compatible for 2003 work systems was a pain tho on several workbooks we use.
Having the choice - I like the newer versions (especially '10) - once you get used to the ribbons - it is actually easier and more efficient.

MS '07 and '10 focus mainly on making the UI highly graphical and introducing users to inserting objects (ex, SmartArt, diagrams, etc.). Given that accountants don't understand aesthetics, you're better off sticking to 2003. ;)

Nevermind MSO 2003 I still use MSO Professional 2000! It still works perfectly fine with Windows 7 64bit. Never seen need to upgrade as MSO 2007 can simply save to compatible files that 2000 can read.

I still use Microsoft Office 2003 Professional (with compatibility pack) on my Windows 7 machine, even though I have free access to Office 2007 and Office 2010 Professional Plus via our MSDN subscription. I haven't adapted very well to the toolbar on the latter versions which slows me down as i'm constantly searching for a particular function.

I guess the thing with Office 2003 is that it just works and does what you need at the end of the day. I don't see myself switching to a newer version for a while.

If it wasn't for my school, I'd still be using MSO 2003... I got copies of Office 2007 and 2010 from them.
