If not, WinFLP, or Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs, is a trimmed-down version of XP for older computers, it can run on something as slow as 200mhz, iirc, and give access to most of the features of XP, including security.

I put this on my old 1ghz laptop and it flew!

    But...

So far I've had 3 problems... 2 minor and 1 major.
    1. cannot install Live messenger. (this annoyed me, but I jsut slapped Trillian on there)
    2. cannot install DirectX 9 (will try older versions later, this is not important to me)
    3. MAJOR PROBLEM - cant install bluetooth! I *HAVE* to have bluetooth on this laptop as this is how it connects to the internet. Blueseile (sp?) crashes every time it starts, though the dongle seems to work otherwise...

Anyone know how to resolve the bluetooth problem? I've posted this about a dozen places and so far 1 person has *heard* of WinFLP. Everyone else says I'll have to bite the bullet and go back to XP or go with Vista (*shudder* Vista would make this puppy crawl on its belly... 1ghz + 384mb ram)

It's a cut down version of XP (obviously) made by some geek on the internet.
You can actually make your own (smaller and lighter) version of XP with nLite.

reading somewhere that one of WinFLP issues and limitations = "Dial-up networking and terminal based connections are not supported"

bluetooth device/software uses these services from windows - that might explain the issue that u have

    cheers ...

IT took me 5 forums and around 50 people to finally get an answer, THANK YOU!!!

Well, kinda, I really _didn't_ want that answer... I guess it means I go back to XP (lol! @ ME. ME was the single worst failure of an OS by microsoft)

Somone acctually claimed that Vista would run well on a 1ghz witn 384mb ram... I'm laughing... Is there any truth to this or woudl it indeed lag the PC to takign a week to boot...?
