I have for months, sometimes it's a PITA and has been updating quite a bit lately. Real problem is, it's vanished off my laptop!![]()
I did do a system restore last night thanks to a very buggy Comodo Firewall but I could swear it was there earlier today.
-
Yeah i've been suing it for quite a while now too. I used to use flashblock but it does that and more such as taking over the job of adblock so it's a great little extension.

I use it now and again.
-
So it didn't disappear from your computers?
I'm thinking it updated sometime yesterday before I rolled back with system restore and that's why it's not there. Does that make sense?
I suppose it has to. -
Your saying that system restore has gotten rid of your extension because you updates it? Well maybe but it should've only been rolled back top the previous version. Just re-install it.

AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
Nope. I show V1.1.8.3. -
I think I'm getting tired of trying to protect my computer and enhance my experience with the latest and greatest. NoScripts, firewall, anti-spyware, AV, fasterfox, tune XP, ... blah, blah, blah. Every little thing slows it down, causes conflicts etc.
-
So you want to be as unprotected as the average user?
-
Good Idea! [/Sarcasm Off]
Anyways, what do you mean it just disappeared, did you check to see if you still have the Add-on via the link in the Tools Menu? Do you mean the little icon at the bottom right of the screen? If so, Click "Tools" Menu -> Add-Ons -> No-Script-> Click "Options" -> "Appearance" Tab -> Check "Status Bar Icon". If not report back to us with the answer to my first question, is No-Script listed as one of the installed extension via the Add-Ons menu under Tools at the top. -
I use it and haven't had any problems lately.
-
Ah no, I used to have it, but now it's gone. And I didn't uninstall. It just vanished like I said in my first post.
And Firefox works much faster without it! -
No I don't want a bogged down mess. I want the minimum, light and fast. I have NOD32 and Windows Firewall behind a router. That should be enough, with an occasional Spybot and CCleaner scan.
No more NoScipts
No more Windows Defender
No more Adaware 2007
No ore Comodo FP
No more BOClean -
I agree with your point to a certain degree, having multiple programs just for security is/was ridiculous, I used to have close to 10 program for system optimization/security, and it was just too much. IMO, the best defense against any Virus infection is to have awareness in/good surfing habits, and a few program for the "Just in Case" moments. But this part is where I disagree with you, NO-Script does more than blocking viruses for me, it blocks annoying Javascript, good for prank sites that pops up with tons of prompts (imo those sites are stupid as hell), it blocks most of the unwanted ads making your browsing experience that much better, and be honest I believe it is what set the difference between IE, Opera, and FireFox, just because of this extension I would chose it over the other two.

Not to knock Firefox or NoScripts, but with Opera you can put a button on your address bar to shut off and turn on scripts as needed. You can even use its site preferences feature to enable scripts at script dependant sites you frequently visit, lessoning the need to tick scripts on and off.
-
Agree with the 1st.
Maybe I'll try installing NoScripts again. If I notice that it's slowing down FF, I'll make a decision whether to keep it or not. -
The only thing I don't particularly like about Opera in this respect is that I haven't figured out how to block scripts from the multitude of sites that are linked to on any individual site. For example, NBR itself uses scripts, but so do all the ads on the site. With Opera, I know how to block everything displayed on the page, but I don't know how to unblock NBR but leave all of the other junk displayed on NBR blocked. Is there a way to do this? It's easy using NoScript, and is one of the only things preventing me from switching to Opera.
-
You could do it with blocked content, but it'd be tedious to do. You could site preference to allow scripts to run at the site and then go to the cache to see what content is being linked and then block those linked sites from being loaded by copying and pasting the URL's into the blocked content window. You could do it right off the page just by clicking, but only if graphics are served, and the only way you'd know for sure if you're getting them all is to go to the cache after loading the site. There might be an off-site script being served that doesn't have an associated image on the page. I haven't used NoScript to know, but I have the impression it would be much easier to do.
I find they all have their pluses and minuses. If I could get a switch on the address bar to turn scripts on and off as needed in IE6 SP2, I'd be in my own little browser heaven. I think it is possible to make custom buttons in IE, but I wouldn't have a clue how to do it. -

I've been using it for well over a year now, great add-on.
I agree with several of the posters above me, safe and smart browsing habits are safer than any anti virus or anti spy-ware, actually the link in my signature contains a document with those very simple yet very effect tips.
Personally though, for maximum software protection use Firefox + NoScript + AdblockPlus + FiltergSet. -

I love no-script, I have a 768 dsl connection (ugh, i used to have dial-up and already i think dsl is slow). No script though makes surfing much faster, along with FasterFox. Peerguardian is also a great program for blocking spyware and ads. Also use spybot 1.5. Though since placing no script and peerguardian, avg and spybot have not found one spyware/virus. Also with no script's "Allow" feature, it stops being a pain in the ass fast.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but have you tried the default vBulletin theme? CP, edit options, scroll to the bottom.
-
So it sounds like I could get the same functionality, it's just more difficult. I guess I'll stick with FF for now. Like you said, there's always compromise.
And Hiker, thanks for the info. I was merely using NBR as an example of a site that has content on each page that I don't particularly have the desire to see, and NoScript and ABP combine to pretty much eliminate it from this, and other sites. I do like the vBulletin theme, except that I also like having the links to see the Dell Coupons, which is why I usually keep it on the NBR default view.
Anyone use Firefox NoScripts?
