Does anybody here use Paragon Drive Backup 9?
I want to make a image of my main partition, but it seems the way Paragon does backups is it makes an image of the entire partition
so even though my 144GB partition has only 50GB in use, Paragon's backup will be of the entire 144GB... even when compressed this still takes a whopping 50GB
does anyone know if this is just how paragon works? or if theres a way to make it backup only the parts that are being used (the 50GB)?

I have been using Paragon Drive Backup Personal 8.51. It is the only one of the major backup products I tested that would actually restore, which I consider to be a rather critical feature for any backup product to possess.
It really reads as if your question is regarding the compression of the backup files from PDB. If your 144GB partition is only using 50GB and your backup is only 50GB it clearly is not backing up the entire partition; only the used portion.
Quite honestly, I have never really looked into the compression options in PDB (although I have observed that there are some), since I have more than sufficient space on the USB drive I dedicated to backups. -
Try acronis, works wonderfully for me!
I whole heartedly recommend it to you! -
shadow protect best out there and i own just about every one of them incl acronis and paragon. shadow protect is the best there is

Isn't there an option for file compression? Your backup size at largest should never be much more than actual used space. At max compression and you should get about 50-60% size of original (or in your case only 25-30GB)

you are correct. i misread what it was telling me

No worries. If you want the backups to occupy less space on the backup media, look into the compression options. My advice, though? Unless this is a commercial installation where an entire server farm or NAS is being backed up regularly, just get an external drive big enough to hold as many of your backups as you wish to retain.

Now you must be joking, right?
I like the Paragon Partition Tools, used those several times back in those days where i had partitions
But as I use Windows Home Server for the backups, I don't use their Drive Backup tool. But I would possibly chose it over acronis, as paragon software so far never failed on me. -

You can almost certainly backup to a USB drive; however, not all products handle the restoration from a USB drive equally.
Anyone use Paragon Drive Backup?
