So i have finally gotten around to reinstalling quicken. I used it back in 2009/10 and liked it until the program glitched when I transfered money from one account to another. The numbers of money were off and I tried to manually adjust it but to no avail. So i am reinstalling it again couple years later to give it another shot since it is really handy to actually see what you are spending money on. A great way to help refine your spending habits (the little things like going out to eat or how much you really spend on groceries and such) I remember being able to find an easy 100 bucks a month in spending cuts last time. I have 2009 and i was wondering if anyone had any opinions if i needed to upgrade to a newer version and if there was a savings with upgrading. I can't find any deal for upgrading from a prior version.
Thanks
HF

I worked retail in technology (don't remind me) and I don't recall there being an upgrade discount. But to be honest, if you're using it for personal finance, then unless you're experiencing incompatibilities, I can't wholeheartedly recommend you shell out the money to upgrade (consult your Quicken software for exact savings on this
).
That's probably the biggest drawback to using an expired edition. I don't think Intuit offers "upgrades" though. Like AV software, you're required to buy the new version outright at retail price. -

the program is useless if i can't download my statements and transactions....thats kinda the whole point -_- well 60 bucks down the tubes on a new version :/
Thanks pro
P.S. those are essential parts really...pretty much make the program work :/ -

You may want to look at Mint, in particular if you're using a SmartPhone or Tablet as well. It's kind of like an online version of Quicken (in fact, Intuit had bought them not long ago), and it's free. Well worth a look.

thanks but i hate tablets and smart phones for going anything ^^ I can't live without a keyboard and mouse. I also don't own a tablet so i don't reaaly care but i'll keep that in mind for later if i end up getting stuck traveling a lot.
Also my question always was....which is more secure? Mint or quicken? I always assumed quicken since you are not stuck with a 100% open internet connection the entire time working on your stuff. I also figured quicken is faster, which is why i went with it a couple years ago -

yea my internet connection sucks...thanks AT&T...when it comes to secured connections it blows...don't ask me why :/ Also have UAC enabled and it is annoying as hell. I wish it had a remember and save for this program because this is ridiculous. Every time i start windows i have to click it 5-10 times for various programs -_- even intel XTU needs to be okayed.....
Hell when it comes to private files mine are very secure...hell i have forgotten already 4 trucrypt files passwords :/ can't brute force them because it'll take 5000000000000000000000000 years even with having it limited to only characters i used :/ throwing spaces randomly in between has made it nearly impossible to remember and brute force. OTFBrutus doesn't offer enough options to limit how many possible combination are possible. I guess with truecrypts special thingy that reduces how many times a password can be entered makes a 130k DMIPs CPU only enter 160 passwords a second....yea almost 1,000,000,000 operations for a single password -_- that is some cryptography huh -
To get back on the subject, I have been using Quicken 2007 and it works OK for me but I don't do any of the on-line stuff with it. I also use Quickbooks and find that a better program for business use.

whats the difference between the two?

Big difference. There's no point using QuickBooks for your personal finances.
