I am having this problem on two seperate computers. Both of them are identically configured Dell XPS 1330's (see signature). On both of them I have run KillDisk to wipe Vista and Media Direct out of the picture and then installed Windows XP Pro SP2. These are the primary programs I remember installing on each computer.
Firefox
Avast AV
Online Armor Firewall
Open Office
GIMP
MS Office 2007 Home and Student
CutePDF
7-Zip
FoxitReader
VLC Media Player
The only time this error occurs is when I close Internet Explorer (which I use for checking my hotmail email only). After I sign out of hotmail I close and that is the time that it gives this error but it does not give that error every time. It's not like it's causing me serious problems, I'm tempted to just hit OK and move on with my life but it does irk me a little.

From what I've seen the first number does not change and the second number changes every time. What can I do to figure out what's causing this? Thanks

Does Dell provide any XP drivers and notebook system software? If so, did you install all of the necessary and required drivers?
-
This is probably sad but I've heard many people refer to "notebook system software" and I have no clue what they're talking about. Dell quickset maybe? If someone can elaborate I'd appreciate it. Just to clarify, here are all the drivers I've installed, and in the order I installed them in.
Chipset Driver
Memory Card Reader Driver
Video Card Driver
Sound Card Driver
Touchpad Driver
Webcam Driver
Fingerprint reader (I skipped this, I don't want the software on my computer nor do I want to use the fingerprint reader and unfortunately when you install the driver it installs the software simultaneously which is not something I'm willing to accept.)
10/100 Ethernet Driver
Intel Wireless Driver
Bluetooth Driver
Wireless 400 USB minicard (this has also been skipped. Dell does not make drivers for the Wireless USB minicard for XP as far as I know. I wish they did but they don't) -
Do you have any toolbars installed? We had some users at work getting these type of errors, and after a Google search I found that most people reporting them had several toolbars installed. Quick fix was to remove the toolbar altogether, or disable them in the Manage Add-Ons section of the browser (most of our users were on IE). I'd try that if you have any toolbars and take it from there

With cryptic error messages like these, try pasting part of the error message into Google (if you haven't already done so), with quotes around it.

In this case, this led me to a couple interesting pages:

Well, it did it again. I've now unchecked the box "enable third party browser extensions". I'm going to restart and we'll see what kind of luck we have after that. Thanks.

Still doing it. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I had done that google search and already found the link you mentioned. However, when I clicked your link and saw it the second time I realized it was 7 pages long which I hadn't noticed the first time. In subsequent pages I learned about the possibility of solving the problem by deactivating add-ons. I suppose I'll be doing that one at a time for the next few days. Thanks for the help.

Notebook system software is listed under system utilities.
Have you read Ambers guide?

I recently followed it without a hitch except for the fact Quickset won't install, something about updating Windows Installer, although as far as I can tell it's the latest. Still, Fn functions appear to work.
edit: I was able to install Quickset using the Dell resource CD. First time I needed it! -
If it matters, this is what my device manager looks like currently:
I have disabled the fingerprint reader because I never want to use it. I believe the USB device is my wireless USB card which as far as I know Dell has not provided XP drivers for so far. I suppose I could disable it as well until I find drivers for it which may be never. -
-
One tip that I did which made the re-install somewhat easier is that I downloaded all the drivers and software beforehand (except for those on CD's) and kept them on my D drive.
Wish I could help more, best of luck. -
