Something has been puzzling me lately, my apps that are supposed to load on startup are not loading, like OneDrive, Internet Download Manager, SoundBlaster Audio Control, etc.
But other apps do load like my Antivirus, Clevo Control Center and some other system related apps.
I initially thought this is a bug in the latest build of Windows 10 14393.351
So today I decided to take a look at the event viewer and I saw this faulting app:
That gave me a hint of what's causing this, it is the WLAN Manager that is built in to the Intel PRO/Set Wireless Drivers and what it does is it prompts you to connect to a WiFi Hotspot if your Wifi connection gets dropped.Code:Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 10.0.14393.351, time stamp: 0x5801a56fFaulting module name: WlanMediaManager.dll, version: 10.0.14393.0, time stamp: 0x57899952Exception code: 0xc0000005Fault offset: 0x000000000005d4b8Faulting process id: 0x128cFaulting application start time: 0x01d2346c8890a88fFaulting application path: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXEFaulting module path: C:\Windows\System32\WlanMediaManager.dllReport Id: 6f6c8037-055a-4248-b773-dacba086aaeeFaulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID
So I uninstalled the WLAN Driver and rebooted, all my apps loaded perfectly.
I then ran the Intel PRO/Set Driver installer again but did not complete the setup, I just copied the file named drivers.msi which was in my temp folder and exited the installer
Next, I ran the drivers.msi only which is basically an installer for the drivers ONLY and installed the drivers without the WLAN Manager bloatware and then rebooted. All the icons still loaded just fine.
This happens on both the driver I got from Clevo and with the latest one from Intel so it's not an issue only in one certain driver
The issue seems to be once the WLAN manager tries to load and fails, it is preventing the other apps in the sequence from being loaded. My AV and other system apps managed to load as they were before the wlanmanager.exe in the que
Here is the latest Intel WiFi Drivers v20.10.2 extracted driver if you want to install it manually through device manager but basically now you understand the way of how I got that extracted the driver should you need to do this in the future on a later driver
I hope my posts helps others as I did notice @boricuafly had the exact same issue yesterday when I logged on his PC using TeamViewer to help him with his overclock and I immediately blamed it on Windows 10 when he asked me why aren't my icons loading

Cheers mate!!
So that's what's been causing me a headache a few days ago, issues with Aliwenware CC, OSD, IDM..... Tried everything , system restore, system image, task scheduler, regedit, nothing fixed it.
Removing Intel bloatware fixed it for me.
Thanks again.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

@Phoenix I ran into this issue as well. What I did was delete the Intel PROSet Wireless using CCleaner and then installed Intel AC 8260 driver using the updater in Device Manager. Seems like everything is working fine. Is there any way I can double-check that everything is running as it should be?

Just install the latest INF driver manually from the OP to still be on the latest driver minus the Intel Bloatware -
Ok, I just wanted to make sure that Intel AC 8260 is the only device that needed these drivers. I wasn't sure if the Intel PROSet Wireless included drivers for something else as well. All seems to be working great now. Thanks @Phoenix.
