I own a copy of Windows 7 Pro from MSDNAA, which I had installed on an old laptop. That laptop is now trash, and I wish to install it on my new laptop. I have the same installation CD and product key, but I get an error that the key is invalid when I try to enter it (not Activating, just entering for the first time). Does Windows 7 lock the product key to one computer? Am I going to have to go through MS to resolve this?

don't enter it, and try activation later.

i'm unsure what the license exactly says about your key, but it should at least INSTALL. the installation disk can't really know if a key got used before..

I know, that's why it is perplexing me. It isn't connected to the internet either.

I've also been told that MSDNAA keys are valid on multiple machines anyways (as long as I'm the one using them).

is it the official MSDNAA disk you try to install from?

anyways, just install without key, that's possible. just press "next".

Yes. I used the Microsoft Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool to make a bootable UBS from the ISO.

Problem resolved! I was looking at the wrong XPS file. Please let this topic die. <____<

Ok, now activation issues! What is the official process on activating the same product key again? I'm guessing I just have to call MS and tell them my situation and they... Do something? Would they just do over the phone activation or give me a new key or what? Also, should I call CS or Over-the-phone Activation?

Call the number and they will ask you for a verification question, usually the question is "how many computers do you have this key activated on?"

From all the times I've activated the process has all been automated. I've never had a problem where it won't let me reactivate the same key on another computer. I'm also using the keys I got from student discount deals and school, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not :?

What did you say when they asked how many systems that they key was activated on? I also got mine from school, and I *thought* it was allowed to be activated on multiple machines anyways.
