I just noticed something today that some of you may not have seen. Usually I go to my start menu, navigate to the CCleaner folder and click the CCleaner exe icon and run the program. But today I switched things up and clicked start and typed CCleaner and saw 2 versions. Both are called CCleaner but when you hover over the items, one is CCleaner64 and the other is just CCleaner (x86). So this whole time that I've been navigating to the CCleaner folder and clicking it, I've been using the 32 bit version, while there was a 64 bit native app that could be used.

Has anyone else noticed this? Does it even make much of a difference? And why doesn't CCleaner default the one in the start menu to the 64 bit app for 64 bit computers?

    Interesting...

I noticed it when they first started including it. It was in the change log. I had to set my shortcut to point to CCleaner64 as well. I can't tell if it makes a difference or not, but I haven't had any issues with it.

It starts the 64 bit version for me by default. I really doubt it makes a difference. Of all the applications I use regularly, this probably would've been among the last on my list I'd ask for a 64 bit version of.

Of course there's no reason not to use it if you can, though. I guess it's nice to finally have a 64 bit app I use all the time that isn't hampered by lack of 64 bit plugins and so on.

When the 64bit version came out the change log only mentioned 'improved performance in 64bit environment' or something along those lines.7

So using the 32bit version should work just the same also with the 64bit being a big quicker for scanning and cleaning. I have not noticed anything. It might be one of those performance increases you can only see in benchmarks.

Nice to have but no big deal, since it's available just use it.

With the latest release .1343 I've noticed that there is only one CCleaner icon in the menu. It leads me to believe that if you have the 64-bit OS, it will only load the 64bit version. Whenever I load mine, it's automatically 64 now whereas before I would have to select which version to launch.
