Are you upgrading from XP to Vista, or are you buying a new computer with Vista already on it?
-
I just bought a new notebook so I'll be doing the express upgrade...
-
upgrading at my convenience...

I am not upgrading.

I've needed to upgrade my notebook for a year now, but given my experience with previous Windows upgrades, I knew that I'd never get around to upgrading a perfectly good XP install to Vista. But still, I wanted Vista, so I waited through all the delays and finally, just this past weekend, I ordered a new laptop with Vista preinstalled. I feel like I made the best choice for me. Hopefully this laptop will last me through all of Vista's operational cycle -- unless Vienna turns into another Vista...

congrats Cogitatus

I'm still in the process of buying a new notebook (master of procrastination, I know
), but I won't bother with Vista until SP1 is released. That's if I end up running Windows at all... I haven't run Windows on a home machine in nearly 10 years, and a Macbook Pro is on my shortlist at the moment.
-
I wouldn't upgrade my computer with Vista, because I'll just be wasting Vista's Aero and lagging my computer. I'll buy a new notebook with Vista installed.
-
I'm not upgrading.

I'll vote not upgrading for now. I worked too hard optimizing XP to its full potential (aka followed the 16 page guide at tweaksrus.com + did a few registry tweaks of my own). Because of which my computer boots fully in ~40 seconds which is sick. I'd rather not throw that away and have to wait 3 minutes for vista to boot.
This is when I will upgrade:
Service Pack 1
Tweak Guides available
ATi catalyst vista 7.2+
When the bugs are worked out basically... -
I want Vista Ultimate with a purchase of a new PC.
Do they do that? If so, I figure probally only on PC's above $1200 -
I recently got rid of my Vista incompatible notebook
(GMA900,PentiumM). Now on the lookout for a new one; since Vista is already out I'll buy with Vista unless I find a really good offer on a XP notebook.
-
check out the dv6000t
-
I'm gonna buy a new computer with Vista installed as my previous computer wont be enough to run vista smoothly.
-
The 9000s are the only HP to offer an Ultimate upgrade option at the moment (Premium is the base), and it isn't even available in either the 2000 or 6000 series yet. Dell doesn't seem to be offering it in any of their mainstream models, so if you're not interested in the 17" 9000t, you may have to look to the boutique brands for Ultimate preinstalled -- at least for right now.
-
You can upgrade from premium to ultimate once you get the PC.
-
Nope, it's freaking expensive and silly thing to upgrade now... i ll wait till year end when the service pack 1 is out.
-
I'm not upgrading.
I won't be getting Vista until I replace my computer. And since I got this laptop a few months ago I don't plan to buy a new one until I graduate from University in 2010. -
That having been said, I wonder if we'll see MS lower the prices on those "Anytime Upgrades" after a year or so? I imagine that most of the people who really need/want Ultimate will have bought it by then and upgrades will start to level off. -
Upgrade for Laptop since is free. If Vista is good, I might just sell 360 for 450.
Desktop remains XP until application such as iTune, DrDivx and other Adobe Software release patch for Vista. -
I expect the usual kinks, bugs, and assorted problems that come with new MS products. Won't upgrade for at least a year...XP is finally cruising.
I also want to sort out the DRM controversy. The hearsay on this is very scary so far. Any links to good, clear facts on it? -
I'll upgrade to Vista at some point down the line. I'll probably wait till a service pack is released and they iron out most of the bugs and kinks.
-
I think its best to sit back and relax with my windows xp for now, allowing windows vista to fully mature.
-
Im taking the express upgrade since its free

I installed Vista Ultimate a few days ago, really liking it so far. My Pentium M is overwhelmed sometimes and does not multitask well, but for the most part the experience is fairly smooth, and most importantly, quite enjoyable. I recently plugged in a 256MB flash memory stick and am using Vista Ready Boost, it seems to make a noticeable difference.
I have not run into any problems so far. -
I don't see need to upgrade to Vista within a year or two.
Moreover, my main laptop is using 1.1GHz ultra low voltage processor, and Vista would suck too many working cycles of it and reduce battery time. -
im not upgrading until microsoft and all other companies have got their acts together and drivers are there and i can use all of the programs i have now
-
my case:
. 2 partitions XP home and vista rtm
. no difference in battery usage so far,
. & i have been playing with vista since rc1
cheers ... -
have upgraded.
Dont regret it, but am not appreciating the fact that the Graphics Card Driver Vista Shipped with sucks and Nvidia doesnt have an updated one yet
Runs Extremely smooth on my machine, love the Aero, love the GUI, period.
Security is a pain sometimes, but its security none the less.
looking forward to SP1 -
I'm upgrading to Home Premium since it's free.
Except it won't be til April 3rd since that's when it ships to my house.
-
Staying put with XP. Not looking to upgrade until 2008-09 (see "Vienna in '09" thread).
As I said there, it'll be a case of how good whichever Mac OS does Windows emulation vs Vista
Seriously, I do want to skip Vista and get the next one. Hopefully with features removed from Vista
Are more people upgrading or buying a computer w/ Vista?
