Are the Windows 7 upgrade copies being sent from computer manufacturers retail versions in the box found in stores?
Or are they OEM CDs?
I was wondering about Sony.
Anyone get there copy yet?

upgrade copies are upgrade copies.
store bought retail copies are store bought retail copies. -
There are upgrade copies sold in the stores. They are called retail versions.
This is what I m referring to (it says "Upgrade" at the top of the box) :

It should be OEM copies. However, depending on the OEM, the disc might be either a OS only/clean install or customized copy.

That is what I thought as well.
But Lenovo was charging $18.00 for shipping for the upgrade CDs.
I thought for sure that meant they were retail versions.
How could they justify charing $18.00 for an OEM CD which don't come with a box. -
Because they can. Hopefully, Sony decides to just ship a drivers DVD + OS DVD without trying anything more.
Last time during the Vista upgrade process, HP just shipped their own branded DVD along with the drivers DVD. it might have have been free or they only charged $7 if I can remember correctly. -
Sony has both 32-bit and 64-bit editions in one DVD. More info : http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/..._1_1&dialogID=140662372&stateId=0 0 140670023
