There are several small problems that occurs frequently on my 64bit Windows Vista Home Premium system. Now I'm doubting whether it's worth all the trouble just to maximize the 4gb ram.
1. Tapping function on the touch pad turns off by itself without any notice occasionally. I have to go to Control Panel>Mouse to recheck the tapping box in order to have it work again.
2. "Microsoft Sync Office has stopped working." message pops up almost every day. I don't know and don't really care what it is for, but the error message is just annoying.
3. Every time I use CCleaner to scan for registry problem. The same registry key ending in .DVR pops up every single time. While I perform the same scan on a 32bit vista desktop, it actually says "no problems are found."
4. The Start orb stops working sometimes, such as now, unless I restart the computer.
5. Firefox encounters connection and other trivial issues ocassionally.
6. While I type and have the touch pad turned on, the cursor just pops to somewhere else or deletes a word or so. I try very hard to avoid touching the touch pad while typing, but it still occurs no matter what.
7. Memory consumption is considerably large on the system. I have a 4gb ram installed and the base ram consumption when the computer is first turned on is around 1.2 gb. While on my desktop, which has 2.5 gb ram installed, uses only around 850 mb at start up.
So far these are the major software problems I can remember right now. Please help me diagnose whether these problems are caused by the 64bit system and maybe propose a possible solution to each. Just answer as many as you can. Thank you guys so much!!!

1. Sounds more of a driver issue, possibly poor 64 bit support.
2. I have no experience of MS Sync, can't say
3. I have no trouble running CCleaner on Vista x64. Not sure what that extension is for either.
4. My Orb is fine, I couldn't pinpoint the issue you are having. What exactly do you mean it stops working?
5. FF3 is working great on Vista x64 for me. Check your extensions maybe.
6. Possible driver problem, refer to number 1.
7. You have 4 GB of RAM you might as well use as much as possible or else is it wasted money in my opinion.
I would check your driver for you touchpad since that came up in two areas. For FF I noted that you should check your extensions. You also may want to look into the diagnostics Vista provides to pinpoint what is causing the issue. -
Thank you for your reply! If I want to reinstall the system, is there a way I can keep all the softwares installed?
-
No they would be removed if you reinstall the OS.

I would do some searching online for all the best possible drivers for your comp, what kind of comp r u using? Then once you have all the 64bit drivers do a total reformat then a clean install and load all your drivers.

I have a HP dv2700t with Intel C2D 2.5ghz, 320 gb 5400rpm HD, 4gb 667Mhz RAM, and nVidia 128 mb.

Yeah, I downloaded every driver I needed from the HP website right after I did a clean install of the system. I think I'll just reinstall the driver to see what happens. As for the start orb thing, sometimes the start menu doesn't pop up when I click on the orb, nor does it work when I press the windows key on the keyboard.
Are these problems caused by the 64bit system incompatibility?
