Sometimes it can be very hard or frustrating to find the right driver for your machine, especially when you install a new or different operating system!
Here is a very easy procedure to find almost any driver for any piece of hardware ever made
if you cannot find a driver, go to the control panel, there choose "device manager". There highlight the device you need the driver for by left-clicking on it once. Now right click once on the device and select "properties". In the properties window, click on the "details" tab. In the details tab, click on the drop down menu and select "hardware ids". In the value field left click on the top item, now right click on it and select "copy". Okay, now surf to this website and paste the device id in the search box, hopfully you will find your driver now !
Maybe a mod can make a sticky out of this![]()

The site looks interesting, but I didn't see any indication of what OS the drivers are for. I used the sample device ID on thier home page, and the results returned a page full of drivers but no column to say what OS each one was for. Strange.
Gary -
so far all the drivers i fetched there were multi-os, but you got a point, it would be nice if they stated for what os it is.
Anyway, it saved me multiple times when i needed a driver for a webcam of a HP notebook & the sorts of things you hardly find drivers for or if you even dont have a clue what a piece of unknown hardware might be

This could be very useful +REP

Very interesting indeed. Will definitely have to try this if I ever need to.

Thanks this looks interesting

The guy updated the site, and it now says for what OS' the drivers are

nice, this is an idea that should have been done a long time ago.
the usefulness of the site will of course depend on how big and up to date the database is.
problem is 99% of all driver and dll sites out there are fake and contain malware and stuff. so even though this one seems legitimate now the idea may quickly get mirrored and riped off by fake sites and some ill informed person may get something bad on there system.
For that reason I still will always recommend getting drivers for your system directly from the manufactures site. -
Yes, this is actually more of a last resort, because sadly manufacturers do not always give all the right drivers (e.g. HP)
I can defenatly say that this site is legit ! -
the only safe place to get drivers, etc is the manufacturers web site.
there is no reliable way to vet what appears on 'enthusiast collections'.
Including having people say things like 'this site is legit'. -
Don't trust these driver sites. I tested by downloading a Vista 64-bit Nvidia driver for my Vaio. The driver was a 2 year old XP desktop GPU driver, which won't even install in a notebook.
It's not hard to find updated notebook hardware drivers from manufacturer's and OEM's support sites. -
No one would download drivers for things like GPU this way :S... Its not meant to be the newest updated drivers but more like "the drivers you go to when you cant find anything else".
-
I know that. I can't find any updated driver for my Vaio with Nvidia 8400M GT in OEM or Sony's support. I know about lv2go and mod the official Nvidia driver myself. I was telling about this site's legitimacy.
-
and by appearing to cater to the desperation of a certain class of users, these sites become prime sources of infected software.
no amount of net policing, 'user reviews' or in-line anti-malware software will protect users who are so desperate and/or clueless that they will click on anything, download anything, run anything.
lv2go is not blameless in this either. They are famous for allowing the repackaging of driver sets to fake driver signing and/or whql certification. packages and practices like that are just as bad as outright distribution of malware because it lulls that certain class of users into believing everything they read. -
Whatever your opinions are, This site helped me more than once and like i said before, it should be used only as a last resort, I said its legit because the driver packages don't contain any mallware or virus, but yes first go to the manufacturers website
as for updated video drivers, best bet is laptopvideo2go
just wanted to share this site with you guys because it can be really handy in some cases -
I recommend station-drivers.
Very easy to navigate.
You can find the latest driver released from all OEMs. -

How could you possibly attest to this? I am not saying there is any malware, but the point is there is no way to know, until you download the drivers. A blanket assertion that these are all clean does no one any good.
Gary -
Agreed! I never use this kind of sites...
-
All the stuff i downloaded there was okay ...
but i guess some of you are gonna bash me on whatever i say
I just wanted to be nice and help people find a driver and now i feel like im in the inquisition
-
You won't notice a good writed kind off worm/virus.

No one is bashing you. All I said was that just because the files you downloaded were clean does not guarantee anything. When you said this:
you wound up (maybe inadvertently) making a blanket statement that everything on the site was legit. I merely pointed out that you only know about the ones you downloaded, and that you ought to caution folks that this is an unauthorized third party distribution of drivers and they should be VERY cautious to the point of having a good system restore point (or drive image) prior to downloading anything from there.
Gary -
thats absolutely correct, every package downloaded from unauthorized sites should be scanned at least.
another remark for the distrustees, you can use the site just to identify the piece of hardware and then go to the manufacturers site to obtain the official package -
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
No, every package downloaded from unauthorized sites should be preceeded by a total image backup of the C: partiton, anything less is too risky.
