Havent really done my homework here, meaning I havent even tried the FV of IE8. I am however very happy with the latest Firefox.
I wonder how many people have moved back to IE from Firefox with the release of version 8 and why?

IE8 still has a lot to catch to make me switch. For example, IE8 doesn't have a spell checker. FF 3 has one. IE8 requires you to type full web address, ie cnn.com [ENTER] or cnn [CTRL-ENTER] while with FF3, you could just type cnn [ENTER].

IE sucks, I'm not gonna give up firefox in a hurry. Considering how microsoft seem to work ("the worse we can make a peice of code and the more complicated and useless the better") I think that IE8 will be even more of a let down than IE7.

I use firefox because it's fast and upgradeable, although opera is faster I don't really like the amount of bugs it has. So far the only thing that has made firefox crash for me is one or two occasions with the facebook homepage (something to do woth the new layout, IE crashes too though)

Staying with Firefox and Chrome. IE8 is okay, but performance and scrolling issues, no spell checker, and not auto logging onto websites are not to my liking.

Though in a distinct minority, I think I will stay with IE8. I'll jettison FF - never liked it anyways - yes and that includes its add-ons. OTOH, I remain faithful to Opera (currently, I am at 9.64), I am most comfortable with it. But I have also a few niggling problems with IE8 - like the auto-login feature as someone mentioned above. I don't need a spell checker!

Sticking with firefox... not even a question.

@Cyber visions - Netscape is discontinued and has been for quite some time now. Using a discontinued browser is foolish considering the security risk involved and how many free alternatives there are.

I've been using Firefox for so long now, I can't imagine giving it up! IE7 is so clunky-feeling in comparison (when I'm forced to use it)....I can't see IE8 being much better....

    Internet Explorer 8 >>>> Firefox.

I tried it, and it blew Firefox away in terms of speed and stability. It's faster, more secure, and best of all, way lighter than Firefox. Though there's still a long way to go before it catches up with Opera.

It asks you whether you want to import any bookmarks or feeds from the other browsers that you have installed, and if you tell it to, it does that automatically.

Sticking with Firefox 3, IE 8 was still just a bit too sluggish for my taste. Things that are instantaneous in other browsers, such as opening a new tab takes a while to happen, esp. in IE 7.

Definitely agree. My main browsers are Opera and IE8 for some webpages that refuse to play nice with anything except IE. Chrome is great for Gmail, though.

In Iexplorer, you can just type C + Shift Enter if you want to go to CNN (provided it's in your history). Much faster than pressing CNN + Enter

IE is a lot faster than FF3 on my netbook.

staying with firefox. and feeling sorry for everyone who thinks ie beats firefox :)

on the other hand, i use opera on my mobile phone and love it since years. so while i won't switch on the pc/notebook to opera, i still support them and think they're great. i just like the customability of firefox.

I'd been used to FF, so some things about IE7 annoyed me, especially their tabs. For example, you'd automatically switch to another tab even if you right clicked it. Opening a new tab also took a long time. One other thing, you had to switch to a tab to close it. Also, the 'bloated' skin didn't appeal to me. I definitely didn't have these issues with FF, that's why I found it really bad.

Well.. in IE 7 you can do most of the tings you described above.
E.g. it's default option to switch to another tab if you right click it. But you can change it in the browser options.
E.g. You don't have to switch to a tab to close it. Just click the "x" button to close a specific tab

FF is probably too overrated because people actually spend time learning the program and figure everything out. Once people get used to something, they'll usually find it better than something they haven't used or used a lot.

ff is more flexible, espencially thanks to the addons. it is, for me, about as stable as all other browsers (they all crashed on me in the first hour of use :) but normally only once in weeks).

and yes, firefox gets only awesome if you learn it's features and addons. but it's quite nice by default (but i think the default ui is much too big to be good, hope they change for a next version).

things like the opening of new tabs in ie are just very slow, even in ie8, it still takes "a moment". in ff, it's instant. everytime. this is a major ui annoyance for me. typing ctrl-t and start typing an url, just noting the browser is not yet ready and has to .. load stuff from the hdd?!?!? .. is irritating and bloated.

no matter where i click on ie, it's never really snappy. at least never more snappy than ff.

    and it's not customizable.

but yes, everything gets hyped from time to time, resulting in overrating. that week: conficker and it's danger.

Are you using an outdated computer? Even my netbook can open tabs instantly in IE8 and start typing immediately. FF, Opera all open tabs instantly as well. All of the browser are snappy on my netbook.

IE8 is feature rich but slow.

I prefer FireFox. It is faster and can do most everything.

I really like Google Chrome though.

I'll be transitioning to IE8 (from IE7) as soon as Windows Update picks it up as a download for me. I did try out IE8 Beta 2 and RC1 a while back, and both did very well for me. I re-installed everything a couple weeks back (massive spring cleaning) but haven't gotten to installing IE8.

Edit: This question would be great as a poll.
