    Not just now.
I'm quite happy with Vista at the moment. And anyway, I will probably wait till all the glitches that come with these new os' are fixed.
So probably next year or two. ;)

I just upgraded. Pain in the rear to do so, but it's finally running... just had to juggle BIOS settings because apparently Windows 7 isn't hip to this "SATA" thing that's been happening lately, and doesn't have any generic drivers that can handle it by default. Gotta install in IDE mode, then install the drivers, then change back to AHCI mode.

But once it's running, Win7 is alright. It's a good OS for playing games on, which is the only reason I use it instead of Linux on my desktop.

well if this wasn't future tense i would say yes. but i upgraded when the beta hit. and been using it as my main os since. vista can kiss my "explicit language inserted here" and xp doesn't even need addressed quit holding out and get with the flow. tech is always evolving why shouldn't your OS?

I upgraded our three laptops. My wife's (a Gateway E100M) was by far the easiest with everything working out of the box and requiring no extra downloads to get it to be fully functional.

My M700 required driver downloads and the Toshiba Value Added Package and Tablet PC downloads to get everything functioning as it should. Took an extra 30 minutes to get it running properly.

My UX380N was the most difficult with the drivers and other software needing to be installed in a certain order so that it would work properly. Thankfully the folks at micropctalk.com had figured out the process so while it was tedious, I was ultimately successful with the installation.

All in all I am very pleased with the process and how relatively painless the whole thing was.

Wh would I change from a perfectly well working Vista Business installation?Vista recovery is about the same speed as Win7 vanilla on my Vaio.

I did swap out the Server OS on my old Lappy for Win7 though as this now allows me to host a tiny little website and share a printer at home.
I couldn't share the printer before.
The old lappy used to be XP before that.

    How should I vote??

Windows 7 is still very expensive in the Philippines (we dont have the family packs and upgrades :|). But one laptop here is using a pre-RTM Windows 7. Ran much better than XP and the Vista it came with (because of the bloat, Vista on this laptop ran so slow, we hated using it) in this thing.

And I have no plans yet on pirating Windows 7, because it is a solid OS and the money will be worth it.

I would love to upgrade, but seeing as I bought this laptop way before the eligible date for a "free" Windows 7 upgrade (June 26), I would have to buy it from stores, and the price is really turning me away. Besides, Vista is still kinda new to me (only been regularly using it for around half a year now ever since I bought above-mentioned laptop  )

I'm upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I don't have any need to, I love my Windows Vista, but my system is due a format, so might as well get Windows 7 on it.

Have thought about it for a bit and decided not to. Somewhat because of the cost, but mostly because Vista runs smooth as silk on both of my machines still :)

Well, Win7 runs fine on a Pentium M 1,6GHz, 1GB Ram and slow HDD, and intel 910/915 integrated graphics.

(That's my old lappy running as a server and sharing a printer)

Give it a think - if you are on an XP computer with above or better specs it may be worth it, Vista, I don't know.
On my SZ its not worth the hassle due to Sony's "driver support" (you may laugh) - and I don't fancy spending time to research them, and get them in the right order and what have not.
    Vista Business works fine :)

(Yes, I know the info is on NBR, but still needs time)

My current laptop has an 8 GB SSD and 512 MB of RAM. My newly ordered, yet to arrive, used laptop runs at 1.2 GHz and cost $75 less than a newly minted Windows 7. The XP Pro it comes preinstalled with will work just fine. :D

Eventually I'll see Windows 7, it'll just be a while and it wont be an upgrade - it'll be somethig that came with it.

    Your choice.
I suppose 1GB RAM would be better as a minimum for Win7...although it uses less than 512 when idle, the longer the less it seems for me... (server lappy)

But its more RAM hungry than XP.

Windows 7 is not radically different than Vista. Considering just how much I hate Vista clumsy GUI, slow speed and over cautious UAC, I would stick to Windows XP SP3. Not to mention the price tag that I have to pay for features that I don't really need.

I am going to stick to XP until I replace my laptop which probably won't happen until at least another year or two.

well its nice that they have the student upgrade for $30, so it makes it pretty afforable for us students.
but yeah i upgraded, the start up time is probably a few seconds at most faster than vista, the sleep and shut down times are way fast
pretty sleek GUI, not too clumsy and cluttered

performance, isnt wayyy wayyy faster than vista but its noticeable
id say its a good upgrade, expeciallty once they start phasing out vista

I would appreciate details of successful upgrades: laptop model, etc. I want to upgrade from Vista 32 bit Professional to Windows 7 on my Sony Vaio SZ300P, which the Upgrade Adviser says should work, but if lots of people have already done that I would be encouraged to do it sooner; or on the contrary, if lots of people have failed, that might affect my courage also.

Upgrades (as opposedto clean instals) should be easier.

Search the forum for Win7 and the Vaio SZ - it has been done.

Been using Win7 for a long time now, Vista is like a turtle once you get used to it. I've upgraded a whole slew of Dells, all without any problems. Win7 does a great job installing most if not all of the drivers.

Well, I didn't do an "upgrade" per se; I did a clean install. That said, it went very smoothly for both my desktop (custom built - specs in sig) and laptop (again, specs in sig). I haven't heard of any installs that have not gone smoothly (yet).

EDIT: I forgot I haven't put my sig back up. I'll try to do that before tonight.
